What makes God marvel? March 7, 2013, 4:59 PM. In Matthew 8, there is a story about Jesus meeting a Centurion, or Roman captain. He was not Jewish and probably not religious, but he approached Jesus humbly asking for him to heal his sick servant. We are told that Jesus marveled at the man’s faith. Jesus MARVELED! I think this is what Jesus was talking about when he spoke to the religious people about seeking the glory that comes from God versus the glory that comes from man (John 5:44).

September 28, 2011, 7:52 PM. I really want another tattoo. I have two already. One I like, one I hate (18 year olds shouldn’t be allowed to begin making decisions about permanent, artistic body ink.). Why was this so revolutionary for me? I think for two reasons. Unfortunately, the present state of Christianity in the West has left many people wanting and many others deeply wounded. This brings me to the second reason. If we have been given His Divine Life, why don’t our lives look more like His? Jesus s...

Things I miss about living in the Groutas’ commune. April 6, 2012, 4:38 AM. So Jon and I moved out of the Groutas’ commune into our own apartment a few weeks ago. I love it! Its really old and in a great neighborhood, where we can walk to everything and we’ve met some fun neighbors. I have to admit though that living in a house of 8 for almost five months changed me, and I kind of miss it. Top 12 things I miss about living in the commune (I couldn’t narrow it down to 10). 9 Yoga time with Kindsey. 8220;T...

I am a Jesus Feminist, because true power is not a limited commodity. December 9, 2013, 1:14 AM. Until recently I didn’t identify myself as a feminist. I’ve always been passionate about equality when it came to race and socioeconomic status, but, when it came to gender, I honestly just didn’t care that much. I’d never felt, or maybe just never owned, the pain of being treated as less than someone else, at least not for an arbitrary or unfair reason, like gender. True power is liberating and leads to mutu...

Jesus’ stories about yeast. February 24, 2012, 9:05 PM. I’m not too familiar with yeast, because I hate baking. I’m really terrible at it. I just can’t bring myself to stick to recipes or measure things accurately. However, I have successfully made bread in my bread-maker a couple of times, and in the process I learned a few things about yeast. First, its powerful stuff. Bread made without yeast is gross! Church, this should disturb us, and we cannot ignore it! This is all really depressing and could eas...

An unwelcome, transforming teacher – Cari Jenkins

Shine Speak Life. Give Courage. Bless. An unwelcome, transforming teacher. May 11, 2015. May 12, 2015. A wave of panic swept over me and I glanced around to find the nearest exit. I was trapped. Duty called. I needed to stay, greet the speaker, thank my friend for the invitation, and kindly say good-bye to those I had met in the moments prior to the tears, the dam and the panic. Much of the world seeks to provide a way out of the waters of pain. We are provided with all kinds of apparatus to avoid pa...
The grace of pain – Cari Jenkins

Shine Speak Life. Give Courage. Bless. The grace of pain. January 7, 2015. Two words immediately came to mind as I reflected on 2014; grace and pain. These two words do not normally coexist. For this past year and honestly for the past four, I have experienced such depths of grace my life will never look the same. The grace however came in the most unexpected package. The grace came in pain. As I enter 2015, I am thankful for the grace found in pain. The Journal of a saint. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.
Brief thoughts on receiving: my Lenten journey – Cari Jenkins

Shine Speak Life. Give Courage. Bless. Brief thoughts on receiving: my Lenten journey. February 23, 2015. Receiving. It is a great humility. It is beautiful and important and actually transforming. It is a gift that is beyond my ability to understand and it is something that takes huge risk. I wake up to the risk each morning. Will I be one who receives today? Will I receive the grace, beauty and life that is provided by Jesus, or will I seek to earn and prove and strive. And, I am thankful. I am a daugh...
Ashes and invitations – Cari Jenkins
https://carijenkins.wordpress.com/2015/02/18/ashes-and-invitations
Shine Speak Life. Give Courage. Bless. February 18, 2015. Ashes The remnant left over when all is destroyed. Ashes The reminder that what once was, is no more. Ashes A clear reminder that death has visited and has robbed life in some form. Ashes, hold hope and sorrow. Ashes, hold invitation and defeat. Ashes, hold memories of presence and fears of the future without. Today ashes were placed on my forehead. In the form of a cross, the black soot, labeled me. Ashes, like life, hold both joy and sorrow.
Invitations in the dark – Cari Jenkins
https://carijenkins.wordpress.com/2015/05/13/invitations-in-the-dark
Shine Speak Life. Give Courage. Bless. Invitations in the dark. May 13, 2015. I’ve learned in my own journey that nearly every emotion, every feeling is clue. Feelings are meant to be felt, to be lived into, to be given permission to breathe and when allowed to do their work, feelings can lead one on a mission of discovery. That discovery, often reframes our beliefs about the emotions felt. Doubt is an invitation to trust. Fear is an invitation to courage. Worry is an invitation to peace. 8221; He didn&#...
Six results that evidence belief – Cari Jenkins

Shine Speak Life. Give Courage. Bless. Six results that evidence belief. January 9, 2015. Perspective matters. Internal dialogue is crucial. The words I choose are incredibly important. And, how I decide to engage all that is before me sets the tone for how I will engage all that is before me. Isaiah 26:3 says, “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”. When I believe these to be true, I engage life with confident humility. When I believe these to be tru...
Come all who are broken – Cari Jenkins

Shine Speak Life. Give Courage. Bless. Come all who are broken. February 20, 2015. Brokenness revealed is a beautiful thing. Brokenness revealed is evidence of healing. Brokenness revealed is grace. Brokenness revealed is full of love. To LOVE is not to speak only of that which is comfortable, but it is to speak of that which is true. Without the need to FIX. Truly, honestly, wholly love,. Is to see the brokenness of the other and move towards them in response. Truly, honestly, and wholly love,. You are ...
Formed – Cari Jenkins
https://carijenkins.wordpress.com/2015/01/14/formed
Shine Speak Life. Give Courage. Bless. January 14, 2015. As we go throughout the day what are the thoughts and beliefs that form you? This question is crucial as I continue to understand identity and value. We each carry with us a set of beliefs about who we are, what makes us valuable, what keeps us belonging to those in our lives, and what makes us acceptable an unacceptable in the eyes of others. Our beliefs form us. And what forms us, makes us. Believing that God is a harsh cruel rule driven being co...

The Life & Times of Whitney Breann
The Life and Times of Whitney Breann. Friday, May 20, 2011. There isn't need for much explanation. My sweetest, most adorable, best friend in the whole world got married on April 29th 2011. Admire her beauty because she was a vision. That entire weekend was so fun. And i couldn't be happier with her choice of an eternal companion but i must say it was a little bit of a tease to spend such a short weekend there. I wish i could have had more time with her family and friends. What's a girl to do? Whitney an...

Such is Life
Friday, March 12, 2010. His name is Louis. Oooh, Louis. I love you. There’s a new man in my life. His name is Louis. OOOOooooh, sweet Louis, goes with me everywhere, and he makes me oh so happy. Not as happy, mind you, as my sweet Angel. Or any member of my family, obviously. But happy in a . . . how does one explain it? Happy like how I feel when I wear Mom’s ginormous, perfect, rare, spectacular cornflower blue sapphire ring (all the while pretending, of course, that it’s mine). And he really did.
