Myles Away From Home. Final Ecuadorian Adventure: The Amazon. Final Ecuadorian Adventure: The Amazon. Along the hike our local guide (who is from a nearby community) showed us interesting things like how to weave palm fronds for roof construction and told us about some of the medicinal properties of some of the plants. Along our walk we saw some toads, a small snake which the guide didn’t point out until we had all passed it unseeing it was right at our heads! The next day we again started bright and ear...

Myles Away From Home. Raquo; 1 comment. Submitted by Meg on Tue, 2011-05-17 18:50. One Week in Nampula. My time in Mozambique has been extremely busy this trip. I have had no time to write anything. I am currently sitting in a car on my way back to Maputo from Inhambane, and I fly out tomorrow morning very early. It’s a 6 hour drive, so I finally have some time to catch up! Myles Away From Home. I am writing this from Nampula, Mozambique. This is my third visit to Nampula and to Mozambique. I am here to work on the on-going project we are implementing here to build water points and improve sanitation and hygiene in 600 rural communities. I will be in Mozambique for a total of 2.5 weeks, and it is going to be a whirlwind trip! It is quite hot here, probably reaching 35C. Even at 8am when I went to use the hotel ‘gym’ (the treadmill was actually functional this time! On Sat I...

Myles Away From Home. We all gave it a go; the Americans gave up pretty early given their lack of sleep from their previous night’s adventures, and Dave and I continued on to the intersection. It was slow going at that altitude! Once there, we were given the option of continuing uphill, which I would have liked to have done but I was already getting a headache from the exertion at that altitude so we decided to get in the truck. After the visit we headed back to Quito. Raquo; 7653 reads. Allowed HTML tag...

Myles Away From Home. It made the trip so much more enjoyable. The town of Inhambane itself was quite nice. It is a small, sleepy government town. There is only one road to get there and it is at the end of the road so there is no through traffic. If you are there, it’s because you wanted to go there. There were quite a few tourists around as there are some very nice beaches in the area (maybe next time! All in all it was a very good trip. Raquo; 7648 reads. Myles Away From Home. Day Trip to Otavalo. We continued on to a little shop outside Otavalo with a lovely view of San Pablo lake. Back in the car, we headed out of Otavalo to the town of Cotacachi, which is known for its leather goods. We wandered around the streets of the town and bought a few things. Dave got a leather jacket for $70! There were some nice leather goods belts, purses, shoes, etc. Raquo; 8254 reads. Submitted by Meg on Sat, 2011-01-01 17:58.
