Walk score - measuring pedestrian friendlyness. Today, I discovered WalkScore. Via the Freakonomics Blog). It is a google maps mash-up which tries to quantify how walkable an area is according to distance from common necessities, such as grocery stores and bars. Very clever. And for comparison:. Another cabin fever project: a long-wheel base racer recumbent. This is based on Atomic Zombie's Marauder from his book, but with modifications as I go along. Why a long recumbent? Supposedly, above 20 mph or so, a rider is primarily limited by wind resistance. If you want to go faster, you must overcome that. Unfortunately, recumbents (and their riders) usually look like this.
