Throwing the tennis ball for the dog is different, going to the mailbox is a challenge and something that takes 10 minutes to prepare for. Whole Nuther Side of Alaska. Sunday, October 30, 2011. More About Life in the Tundra. We know that the bears are hibernating, and we know that the moose are done mating, so that is a plus. (Did you know that the bears have their cubs while hibernating? I had forgotten that from elementary school.) Anyway, all is calm in the frozen, dark, white winters. And a white Thanksgiving! Anyway, this is a little view of the life in the winter up here. Hope it gives some/any of you a feeling of what it's like.

Whole Nuther Side of Alaska. Friday, May 27, 2011. The Land of the "Midnight Sun". Let's talk a little about that "midnight sun", shall we? If you live in a place like I do it's ok to put tinfoil on the windows because nobody sees. (We live in the sticks) But if you live in a place that I moved from (a nice subdivision in Fairbanks) tinfoil just doesn't cut it.
