For a while he was in a traveling repertoire theater and even dabbled in stand up comedy. He eventually turned to writing full-time after realizing he couldn’t make fun of himself onstage. It was a rocky start to Susan Elizabeth Phillps’ visit to St. Louis. Before her appearance at St. Louis County Library, she posted the following to her Facebook page:. Ldquo;Oh, please let my suitcase be waiting for me in St. Louis. One flight cancelled and I’ve been rerouted. I’ll make it, but I may be meeting all of you in a wrinkled denim skirt and vague make-up remnants! Luckily her suitcase did arrive, and the author had time to shower, chance and have a glass of wine before heading to the library.
