It is during the end of July early August that I start to think about myself as a teacher. I think about the classes I have had and the lessons I have learned. I start to prepare myself for the new year ahead. Yes, that is right! So I always try to. Let them be little. Let them ask questions. Let them talk to their peers. Let them problem solve. We leave...

If you've been reading my blog for a little while now you may have figured out that I'm a huge fan of Lucy Calkins and Teacher's College Reading and Writing Workshop! MyDayinK: February 2015
http://mydayinkinder.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
This week has been a whirlwind. I had three days with my kiddos and then we had conferences and a day for Professional Development. My Monday started with one kiddo telling me about her weekend. Could not make this stuff up if I tried. Our upcoming science unit is about water exploration. I have uploaded a unit on water to my TPT store. This unit has vocabulary cards, a water easy reader where students can write facts they have learned, a water can be cut and glue activity, and water cycle activities.

It has a topic and 3 clues, it is a.RIDDLE! We started to learn how to write riddles in KS today! I introduced riddles during our writing workshop mini lesson and then students had a chance to practice it. This is a sample of the riddle paper I used with my class. I have included this paper as a link at the bottom of my post. We wrote a riddle as a class so I could model how to do one. We wrote a class riddle about a frog. I demonstrated how to draw the picture and write the answer. Now that I have intro...

Five for Friday: The First Full Week! I have almost made it through my first full week of kindergarten and it has been a great week! There have only been two nights that I have fallen asleep on the couch around eight, so I consider that a success. We have had no crying (by me or the students), no accidents, and we have been having lots of fun. The kiddos are doing a great job learning the routines and procedures of the room. I am excited for a fun filled year! Lastly, I'm really trying to hold true to th...

Making The Most of Your Classroom Walls. Like I didn't have enough on my plate, last week I tore down my math wall and decided to start over! My old math word wall cards were adorable. They used really cute clip art and fun fonts. However, I came to the realization that I only had them up because I liked them {insert gasp and dreaded feeling of being a horrible teacher! To a student, these cards were probably very distracting and were not helping them learn and remember the vocabulary. Here is part of my...
