Staying alive – wideeyedskeptic
https://wideeyedskeptic.wordpress.com/2016/10/04/staying-alive
Looking science in the eye! And that is something that needs an immediate shock. Now, contrary to what they show you on “ER”, the result of giving a shock is a flat line. What you do is: you overwhelm all cells that produce electrical currents, and what you hope for is that the right pacemakers will be the first to wake up and get the heart beating as it should. When treated by waiting for an ambulance. With CPR performed by bystanders, every minute of delay decreases survival by 3-4%. Placing AEDs in cr...
Yes we candida – wideeyedskeptic
https://wideeyedskeptic.wordpress.com/2016/10/15/yes-we-candida
Looking science in the eye! I love making silly puns, so I had to, but this is a serious topic in the pseudo-medical realm. Candida infestation of various bodily cavities is suggested as a cause of disease by many non medical practitioners, and the treatments offered can be harmful. So tonight, we discuss the dread fungus. So it’s a real organism, capable of causing real disease. No problem there, right? Google and see how much is ascribed to so called candida infections:. Even our dear Mercola. About wh...

Looking science in the eye! An MD with a keen interest in all things skeptic, I've decided to open this blog in order to build big, comfortable steps into the scientific ivory tower for those interested. I believe that any topic can be understood by anyone without the use of jargon, and that most people want to understand how science works. Continue reading “Yes we candida”. October 15, 2016. What is the harm? – wideeyedskeptic
https://wideeyedskeptic.wordpress.com/2016/09/09/what-is-the-harm
Looking science in the eye! What is the harm? There are, unfortunately, no shortcuts, no single cure for most cancers and some alternative therapies can harm the patients taking them, taking up hope, money and precious time and leading them away from real treatments that can help them. One of the biggest question asked by people who hear that something is complete woo is – but what’s the harm? Covers many such cases. Today, I want to cover one, high profile case, as a glaring example of harm that had...
Hepatitis 3 – A new hope – wideeyedskeptic
https://wideeyedskeptic.wordpress.com/2016/08/23/hepatitis-3-a-new-hope
Looking science in the eye! Hepatitis 3 – A new hope. But things are changing, and as another example of medical progress that is easy to see and understand, I wanted to cover a relatively new drug that fights hepatitis C, with significant cure rates, just to cover the next time a woo proponent claims there is no money in cures and that they’re hidden from the eyes of the public. We begin with an open label study. Another open label trial. Pooling all cirrhotic patients from the Harvoni trials aimed to c...

View my complete profile. Monday, November 9, 2009. The website and facebook group has been a HUGE success. We have had all types of reactions - but this one so far is a favorite:. Wow I saw this add in my university newspaper. I was so appalled and went immediately to look it up online to see what it was about so that I could send what was certain to be a VERY nasty letter to the editors of my newspaper. The front page, of course, disgusted me greatly! But, I couldn't figure. Thursday, November 5, 2009.

Having one's eyes wide open in amazement. The onlookers were wide-eyed as the spaceship descended. One woman's introspection on trying to lighten up. Thursday, December 13, 2012. We're trying an experiment this year, or a new tradition (it remains to be seen). Forgive me if I get a little preachy, I don't mean to criticize anyone else's Christmas traditions or say that it must be done a certain way, but I am really. Excited about this, folks. I keep finding myself explaining it to people who probably have no desire to know just because it feels kind of life-altering. When we finally get to the. Day, w...

At what happened today. Monday, February 2, 2015. There's a lot of good stuff to be said about the girls becoming older. They can dress themselves, mostly feed themselves, look after their belongings (I live in hope with hats and memory sticks), contribute to the household, be left alone for a little while, have a good conversation and laugh at my jokes. But recently I have noticed one thing. The Gap has disappeared. The Gap between when I go to bed and when they go to bed. Sunday, February 1, 2015.
