Sunday, 17 August 2014. I did something a few nights ago that I haven’t in a long time. I took my cup of tea, went outside and looked up. The last time I had looked up at the night sky, I had marvelled at its beauty (yellow stars! With you. After everything, it had been too painful to even do that, so I was surprised at how easily the hurt settled in, made itself comfortable and then allowed me to continue my musing. And no matter how hard you tried, you couldn’t tear your eyes from theirs? So there I st...

http://yahayder.blogspot.com/2009/09/cooking.html
Monday, 14 September 2009. I don't know exactly where its come from, but I'm really into cooking right now. I want to make lots of things, and experiment, and build up my skills, and proficiencies with different appliances and styles, and methods of cooking. I've started through the making of cakes and nut butters, and I want to make more. I've set myself a target of learning 40-odd dishes in a year - roughly under one a week, from scratch to finish. 23/08/09 Madiera style plain cake. This was awesome...

Tuesday, 7 October 2014. ON TRAVEL IN GENERAL. I am lucky in the past few years to have travelled so much. To wit:. Sweden, Wales, Iraq. And in between, I have genuinely travelled the length and breadth of the country; going back to Norwich a few times, going all the way to Manchester and Southampton, and plenty of visits to Leicester and London, all the while exploring and extending my knowledge of Peterborough every so often as well. After which, the question comes, as it always does, in a pair. Dubai ...

Saturday, 21 March 2015. The Manifesto of Imran the Ever-so-Slightly-Ponderous, Age 27. It has been a particular affectation of mine to decide not to celebrate any birthdays, as they come up. I use them mostly as periods of reflection, but never actually as an occasion for celebration, although normally I do not discourage people from making a fuss over me. After all, it’s nice to be made a fuss of *. It may well be true. Henry David Thoreau, Walden. Or now that we have formed them, we just submit and su...

http://yahayder.blogspot.com/2015/06/on-grieving.html
Saturday, 13 June 2015. Respected Scholars, ladies and gentlemen, brothers and sisters, Salaam Alaikum. My grandmother was a very kind, wise, and caring person. I remember many things, but recently they have just merged into one. I remember games and stories when I was a child. I remember having to learn Gujarati and Katchi so that I could communicate with her better. I remember that before any journey I made, she would make sure that I had an Imam Zamin. This is the speech I gave today at the chalismo.

Monday, 30 March 2015. Brazil v Chile: A Day at the Emirates. It began, as most things do, with the arrival of the post. If only we knew how many incidents were set off by the arrival of some post. The envelope arrived much earlier than I expected it too, and in it lay one of the most beautifully designed graphic pieces I had seen. Anyway, that I say that it began with the arrival of the post actually proves the opposite. It did not begin with the arrival of the post. So I bought my tickets; and I was ab...

Sunday, 16 November 2014. Let me tell you of what I see. And tell me if you see it too. Either my eyes do me deceive. Or you and me both see it true. I see mass upon mass with access to light. Who prefer still the dark cover of night. At our fingertips, knowledge and wisdom. Yet lost in procrastination and boredom. Lost willingly; distracted easily. Confused wastefully, misled readily. No need to worry about material need. But deep inside their souls bleed. Bleed softly away, and as it dies. Stand by and...

http://yahayder.blogspot.com/2015/04/an-essay-on-comics-in-2-parts.html
Wednesday, 15 April 2015. An Essay on Comics, in 2 Parts. ON THE DISCOVERY OF COMIC BOOKS. The Stash", as of 14/04/2015. Some will soon be given away. If you follow me on Instagram (and to a lesser extent, on twitter), you’ll see me mention comic books a lot. In 2014, a comic book store opened in Peterborough, and I have been a very, very frequent visitor there since *. From that point, to finally delve into comic books, with the single issues and trade paperbacks *. As an aside, I am surprised by how mu...

http://yahayder.blogspot.com/2015/06/sigtuna-unterterzen.html
Sunday, 21 June 2015. As I was thinking about how to introduce this post, the idea of having “favourite places on Earth” hit me. It was a question; how capable is any human being of saying they have a favourite spot on Earth - given that very few people can have travelled enough to say so with assurance. Surely it’s naive? Better for me to say something like this:. For now, given all that I have seen, and experienced, I *currently*. Sigtuna is a historic town. Apparently it is the oldest town in Swed...
