October 13, 2014 0 Comments. I decided FRED needed to stop sporting his old ASEA logo! Bring on the Bondo. This was how the project started, the raised ASEA (the A in ABB) logo. Time to start grinding:. Lots and lots of sanding. On both sides until. I did my best to find the font, even asking reddit.com/r/identifythisfont but no luck. Everyone thought it was a custom font. My friend who happened to love fonts used the original letters to generate:. Once it was dry it was time to sand it smooth. It was a ...

May 27, 2013 0 Comments. A few weeks ago there was This Guy. Up on the Dangerous Prototypes site. It looked like fun so I picked one up! It arrived yesterday and I spent a half hour or so toying with it, then I started to take it apart! Last week I was able to get FRED’s I/O board working, so the next step was to get some interesting I/Os happening! Unfortunately during the configuration change a external emergency stop jumper was loosened (but not removed) so that took an hour or so to sort out.

June 5, 2013 0 Comments. Took a few minutes tonight to rip apart an old Eeeeee PC knock-off and embed it within the robot. I was planning on just throwing my raspberry pi in there, but this thing was just gathering dust on the shelf and could probably use some love. Over the next week I’ll throw together a simple serial interface board for the digital I/Os on the bot and a python interface to the web! Anyway, here’s some pictures of the teardown and repurposing. Enjoy! No science actually happened here.

The first thing that happens when I wake up? Try to figure out where I am. I assume a one ton robot would want to do the same. Also… the development timeline for a resolver to digital converter is substantially less than a 2kW, 300VDC power supply or a 3-phase VFD. Design and build a single phase power factor correcting 300VDC, 2kW power supply. Design and build a three phase variable frequency drive and braking controller that can be implemented on each axis. FRED At the Movies. Posted in: Dancing Robots. October 13, 2014 0 Comments. A few months ago I was talking with Ben, the owner of Lyric theater here in Fort Collins. Ben was in the planning stages of the release party for Whensday. The first movie produced by the Lyric. Off hand I said we could have FRED there serving beers, wouldn’t that be fun? Flash forward until a week before the event – Ben wants to know how the bartending robot is coming along. Ben looks worried, “what? FRED at the Movies. I have n...

I have no idea, I can't really explain it. I'm using the guise of a 'learning project' but the best way I've found to describe it is by comparing it to a collector car. This is my '69 GT. It will absorb all my time, energy, and money. While its necessity is questioned by all around me, in the eyes of the few, I will have it all. October 13, 2014. FRED At the Movies. October 13, 2014.
