VISIT OUR SISTER SITE - THE CAIRNGORM REINDEER. In 1990 an opportunity arose. For part of the Cairngorm Reindeer Herd to be moved to a second site on the Crown Estate, Glenlivet near Tomintoul. These small primitive sheep are quite wild by nature and are thought to have been left on St Kilda by the first people that came to Scotland as long ago as 4000 BC. We have various poultry at Wild Farm. Including chickens, guinea fowl, peahens, bantams and geese. They are all free range and spend a lot of time finding their own food although we supplement their diet with wheat. Because of their free ranging nature we are always searching for the latest nest of eggs! Below is a short description of all the different types of poultry we keep:. Bantam crosses/Heinz 57 variety. Guinea Fowl originally come from Africa. We have had geese at Wild Farm for years.

WALKS IN THE WARMER MONTHS. STAY ON WILD FARM. In the summer of 2012 we constructed a 'walk in' meat smoker. A 14ft by 14ft constuction with a 4ft box 20ft up in the air. The walls are made 'round log cabin' style with locally sourced timber and the roof finished with recycled 2nd hand tin sheets. A truly sustainable building! The design of the smokehouse is typical of smokehouses found north of the arctic circle which the sami people have used to smoke their reindeer meat for thousands of years.

Wild Farm Maple Syrup. SINCE 1972, we have taken pride in producing the best, purest maple syrup that money can buy. In early spring, as daytime temperatures rise above freezing, we tap several hundred trees and hang buckets. Family and friends gather the sap daily when the weather is favorable and boil it in our traditional wood-fired evaporator, often late into the night. We make less than 100 gallons of syrup per year so we can take pride in producing the best maple syrup money can buy.
