Sunday, 26 September 2010. Purple patch at Farlington Marshes, September 2010. The lure of a Lapland Bunting took me to Farlington Marshes. At the end of September. This Hampshire Wildlife Trust. Reserve on the north side of Langstone Harbour between Portsmouth and Havant is a great spot.and the site's first Purple Sandpipers. Definitely made it a memorable trip. On arrival at the car park (located just off the A27 / A2030 junction), there were great views of Grey Plover. Overfly distracted for a while.

Monday, 17 October 2011. Isle of Mull, October 2011. Otter at The Shielings, Craignure Bay. Just back from a two week trip to Canada, I was straight off again with our photographer chief (cousin Dave) for a week's stint on the Isle of Mull, with camping, birding and playing with a very expensive 400mm lens all in store. It started well enough, with a fine sunset over our campsite at Killiechronan, at the head of Loch na Keal, where we had a stunning view over the beach and the obliging Whooper Swans.

A few hundred metres from Lac du Der's south-western shore, there are three small reed-fringed lakes - the Lakes of Outines-Arrigny or Etangs d'Outines-Arrigny - hidden amongst the woodland and farmland that I had never explored and this trip seemed the perfect chance.
