Wild Future trip reports: September 2010

http://wildfuture-tripreports.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Sunday, 26 September 2010. Purple patch at Farlington Marshes, September 2010. The lure of a Lapland Bunting took me to Farlington Marshes. At the end of September. This Hampshire Wildlife Trust. Reserve on the north side of Langstone Harbour between Portsmouth and Havant is a great spot.and the site's first Purple Sandpipers. Definitely made it a memorable trip. On arrival at the car park (located just off the A27 / A2030 junction), there were great views of Grey Plover. Overfly distracted for a while.

Wild Future trip reports: October 2011

http://wildfuture-tripreports.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Monday, 17 October 2011. Isle of Mull, October 2011. Otter at The Shielings, Craignure Bay. Just back from a two week trip to Canada, I was straight off again with our photographer chief (cousin Dave) for a week's stint on the Isle of Mull, with camping, birding and playing with a very expensive 400mm lens all in store. It started well enough, with a fine sunset over our campsite at Killiechronan, at the head of Loch na Keal, where we had a stunning view over the beach and the obliging Whooper Swans.

Thursday, 25 March 2010. Cranes and Champagne, March 2010 (4): North to Épernay. From Troyes, we headed north-west along the Seine Valley, enjoying the rolling countryside and fine weather. Stopping in Nogent-sur-Seine, we strolled along the banks and bridges of Ile Olive, the island at the town's centre. The pretty town of. Looking SW from the D951. A hunting male Hen Harrier. Gave great views from the car,. On D933 near Loisy-en-Brie. Gives a better impression, from a visit to the region in August 2005.

Friday, 14 September 2012. North Norfolk Broads, September 2012 (2): Wroxham and return. Heather doing all the hard work. As we topped up the water tanks in Salhouse Broad. The bathroom - effectively a wet room - has two doors, one into the main cabin and one into the rear bedroom. There's a loo, used normally, wash basin and a good shower. Looking from the driving seat back down the boat. From the bathroom looking forward. After a couple of kilometeres we passed the first entrance to Wroxham Broad.

Wild Future trip reports: Champagne, May 2013 (2): Lac du Der's side lakes

http://wildfuture-tripreports.blogspot.com/2013/06/champagne-may-2013-2-ders-side-lakes.html

Saturday, 11 May 2013. Champagne, May 2013 (2): Lac du Der's side lakes. A few hundred metres from Lac du Der's south-western shore, there are three small reed-fringed lakes - the Lakes of Outines-Arrigny or Etangs d'Outines-Arrigny - hidden amongst the woodland and farmland that I had never explored and this trip seemed the perfect chance. Two of the lakes are connected by a 2.5km circular walk from the car park on the west side of the D13 near Site de Chantecoq in Lac du Der's south-west corner. Just a...

Wild Future trip reports: June 2008

http://wildfuture-tripreports.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html

Friday, 6 June 2008. The Sologne, June 2008. With the weather deteriorating again, we headed south and west through the Sologne. Classic Sologne habitats: reed-fringed lake enclosed by scrubby. As we threaded our way the region, we stopped regularly on the side of the road - often in the drizzling rain - to check out areas of pasture, farmland and open water. With no more effort than this, we picked up Whiskered Tern. A personal favourite), Little Tern, Turtle Dove. Cuckoo, Grey Partridge. The following ...

Sunday, 31 July 2011. Virginia Water, Windsor Great Park, July 2011. After getting to know Windsor Great Park over the last year, I'd been keen to visit the beautiful lake of Virginia Water. With Heather horse riding in the park tonight, and with the weather looking good, I took the chance to explore. Is part of the The Royal Landscape. One thousand acres of landscaped gardens at the south end of Windsor Great Park comprising Savill Garden. Paid entry), Valley Gardens. With the sun starting to set behind...

Tuesday, 17 March 2009. The Call of the Crane: Champagne Lakes and Forests, March 2009. Lac du Der from the northern Route de Digue, March 2009. The vast Champagne lakes and forests region in northern France, 75 miles south-east of Reims, is one of my favourite places. Lac du Der-Chantecoq is the largest artificial lake in Europe and a stopping off point for tens of thousands of. Wild Future trip reports: October 2010

http://wildfuture-tripreports.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, 14 October 2010. Norfolk, October 2010 (3): Wells Wood, Warham Greens and Kelling. Wells-next-the-sea beach, October 2010. Before long, I was heading north on the Beach Road and parking in the large car park between the lifeboat station and holiday park. I've always found the path network here a bit of a maze, never going there enough to get to know it, and on this occasion I headed east, out the far end of the car park, past the boating lake and into the woodland. And the same number of Ringed...

Wild Future trip reports

Saturday, 21 June 2014. A day out in Devon, June 2014. It's been a quiet year on the day trip front, with most of my time focused on consultancy work for Wild Future. Labrador Bay RSPB reserve (June 2014). Leaving Woking at 5.30am, it was a beautiful drive down the A303 on a bright and sunny morning - an atmospheric mist around Stonehenge was the only time all day that the sun was not beating down. By 8.15am, I was standing in the car park atop Labrador Bay. Cirl Bunting by Andy Morffew. It's a tremendou...
