Sunday, September 18, 2016. This little fella surely tried my patience. It was within my arms reach but that made it even more challenging to focus and the dense foliage hiding the bird didn't help. Hope I can get a better shot next time. It's a common resident of the montane forests throughout Borneo. Shot this female along the Kingfisher trail of Sepilok's Rainforest Discovery Center. It is one of the more common woodpeckers of the lowland forests of Borneo. Please register and support us. Sunday, September 18, 2016. Wallace's Hawk-eagle (Nisaetus nanus). Anyway, the key to distinguishing the Wallace's from the other two mimic birds is in the feet or tarsus - the Wallace's is feathered all the way to the base of the toes, while the other two would-be's do not have feathers on their tarsus.
