Australia 2006

Sunday, 2 December 2007. After several months of pressure I finally succumbed to the families wishes to take a trip to Australia- the thought of the 24 hour trip there and back filled me with dread, due to the fact that I have never yet been able to successfully sleep on a plane! We decided to stay in south Queensland around Brisbane for a few days before flying north to Cairns and touring around Far North Queensland (FNQ) then flying out of Cairns for home. The itinerary was as follows:. Fly to Brisbane...

Australia 2006: Brisbane

http://wildlifeaylmerton-australia.blogspot.com/2007/11/birding-queensland-down-under-with.html

Wednesday, 28 November 2007. Fly to Brisbane via Singapore. The dreaded flight really wasn’t half as bad as I had expected with 12 hrs to Singapore then 6hrs onto Brisbane. We had a four hour break in Singapore, arriving at dusk I could only manage Cattle Egret. From the terminal. We did take the opportunity to shower at the airport with tea and biscuits afterwards for about £4 all in. And Australian Magpie Lark. The later invading and near destroying the bird table! After dispatching cases and bags, and...

Australia 2006: Mission Beach and Great Barrier Reef

http://wildlifeaylmerton-australia.blogspot.com/2007/12/mission-beach-and-great-barrier-reef.html

Saturday, 3 November 2007. Mission Beach and Great Barrier Reef. Mostly travelling today, with a flight north from Brisbane to Cairns and then a drive down the coast to Mission Beach. The drive down was fairly uneventful although we did pick up Nankeen Kestrel, Cattle Egret. And first House Sparrows. Although we did have a pair of Orange-footed Scrubfowl. Cassowary, female 'Cassie'. Cassowary, male 'Charlie'. And juvenile, 'Colin'. And the stunning Ulleccess. Emerald Dove, Olive-backed Sunbird. Overhead&...

Australia 2006: Daintree, Far North Queensland

http://wildlifeaylmerton-australia.blogspot.com/2007/11/daintree-far-north-queensland.html

Friday, 2 November 2007. Daintree, Far North Queensland. Moving on today and heading north back up the coast. After saying goodbyes to Charlie, Cassie, Colin and co we set off for Cairns, which, like the trip down was fairly uneventful (lots of sugar cane fields! As we reach the outskirts of Cairns a grocery run at the first Coles supermarket produces the first Peaceful Doves. Continuing north we start to see a few more Black Kites. A single Black-shouldered Kite. And a new one, Dusky Honey-eater. Were s...

Sunday, September 06, 2009. A walk up the track this morning produced an imm Marsh Harrier moving east with singles of Hobby, Gol;den Plover and Snipe going west and a Chiffchaff in the hedgerow. wildlifeaylmerton: June 2009

http://wildlifeaylmerton.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

Saturday, June 27, 2009. Along with Rob and Nigel, I took a trip out to Buxto Heath last night for a spot of mothing. Unfortunately the generator packed up at prior to the midnight hour so we had to come to a premature halt to the proceedings. We did manage a handful of species prior to this though which included some new ones for me. Another new sighting for me was my first ever Glow worm. Tuesday, June 02, 2009. Some raptors, at last! Tuesday, August 25, 2009. Mystery Bird (or is it? Out loud, as it shows an extensive white tail base (not pale or diffused but dazzling white! With a clear cut, demarcated, black terminal band! I've seen Common Buzzard with pale tail bases (I look at every Buzzard I see! But nothing like this! Although they do occur, see below) This bird has now got my full attention! Some comparison images blattently stolen from the net. Common Buzzard by Brian Small. Gorgeous Rough-leg, somewhere in Russia. After a rol...

http://wildlifeaylmerton.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

Thursday, May 28, 2009. Couple of good birds seen durig the course of work today, infact a couple of my all time favorites. First was a moulting Red Kite. Seen from my office drifting over the east side of Aylsham at 0830, the second sighting in as many weeks. Later on I stopped at a high point looking over the Norfolk countryside for my lunch break just as a second summer Mediterranean Gull. Sunday, May 24, 2009. The notable sightings included up to 4 Common Buzzard throughout, 2 Hobby west on 22 nd.

Friday, April 17, 2009. Flew west over fields mid morning. Thursday, April 16, 2009. Tuesday, April 07, 2009. A pre-work look in at West Runton cliff this morning produced a couple of 'First of the Spring for me in the form of at least 4 Sand Martin and a Wheatear, during a chilly and breezy 10 minutes. Monday, April 06, 2009. Hawking over the waters surface 'dip' feeding. Back in Aylmerton this evening 10 Fieldfare flew east over the house. Sunday, April 05, 2009. Cormorant - 6 E. wildlifeaylmerton: SBO tick

http://wildlifeaylmerton.blogspot.com/2009/09/sbo-tick.html

Friday, September 11, 2009. Lunch time saw me at Filby Broad, I was hoping to may be jam inon an Osprey, it was very warm with cotton thick cumulus cloud, ideal for raptors. No fish-eater here though, but scanning behind the broad produced 2 Common Buzzard, Hobby, Marsh Harrier and a distant, presumably Red, Kite. Were had as it fed within the canopy of a sycamore. At last! A rare warbler here that I really should have seen here a long time ago! You aint seen me, roight? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

http://wildlifeaylmerton.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html

Sunday, July 26, 2009. Ran the trap last night, and along with the usual suspects including Dunbar, Ruby Tiger and Scalloped Oak was my first ever Oak Eggar. An absolute cracker of a beast! I also had time to have a look at the micro's today, which made a change! A look at the weeds around the pond found several skipper butterflies, with Essex Skippers. Out numbering Small Skippers. Saturday, July 25, 2009. Although someone did claim a distant Redshank to be the bird as well! Saturday, July 11, 2009.

wildlifeaylmerton: Reconnaissance

http://wildlifeaylmerton.blogspot.com/2009/09/reconnaissance.html

Friday, September 18, 2009. After work I hit the coast line as close to our new house as is practicable, which took me to Trimingham. A look in the wood here held single Willow warbler along with Great Tit 2, Blue Tit, and Long-tailed Tit 2. Some great habitat here and one to keep an eye on. Walking along the cliff top had single Wheatear and best of all three fairly confiding Snow Bunting. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Parish Year List 2008-MOTHS. Parish Year List 2008-BIRDS. wildlifeaylmerton: February 2009

http://wildlifeaylmerton.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html

Tuesday, February 24, 2009. Giving good views from the kitchen window in the fog this morning. Sunday, February 15, 2009. With the weekend spent doing home improvements, the welcoming news of confirmation of a trip to Poland in April resulted in a more renewed effort to get stuff done before spring! At home we had a return of Siskin on the feeders (the first for a couple of years) along with Goldfinch and of course our Barn Owl. Thursday, February 12, 2009. Tuesday, February 10, 2009. Was it or wasn't it?

Wednesday, September 23, 2009. Thats it then, this web site is dead, it is deceased, it is no more! After 10 years of residence and nearly four years(! That my reports were reliable and gave a good account of real birding. I do leave with some great memories from this little parish, suffice to say that Aylmerton wasn't well known as a birding site prior to our arrival but, the next time there is a Honey Buzzard influx, I know where I'll be the following morning! Follow if you dare (or can be bothered).
