The answer comes in a much rarer bird here in Southeast Alaska, the horned puffin. With its' bright bill and white chest this animal really stands out! Michael S. Nolan's Wildlife Images. Sunday, July 09, 2006. The eagle has landed. July 7, 2006. One of the by-products of all that bubble-net feeding by humpback whales is lots of stunned and dazed herring. Gulls of every shape and size usually captitalize on this fact, but this afternoon it is a juvenile and adult Bald Eagle that take advantage of the easy prey. The encore came as two of the animals circled and dove beneath our now drifting yacht, at one point stopping and looking up at us as we leaned over the bow to look at them. Michael S. Nolan's Wildlife Images. Saturday, September 30, 2006. Final humpbacks of the Alaska season! With cold and stormy weather humpback whale season has finally come to an end for me here in southeast Alaska. This has been an amazing summer, with quite a few resightings of animals I know and have seen here over the years. The bubble-net feeders have been better than ever, and lots of amazing encounters with humpbacks to add to my journal. Here are a final few images for your enjoyment!
