Wildlife Wanderings

A diary of wildlife observations. Wednesday, 12 August 2015. Wonderful Scotland (Day 6). ON the first day of July we paid a visit to the breath taking Summer Isles. We took a tourist boat out to an island with a tea room and a fishery, but the main attraction were the dolphins and the seals on the journey. The common dolphins displayed by jumping high into the air, with the young swimming alongside the adults - amazing sights. What do you think? Tuesday, 4 August 2015. White admiral - enjoy! Wildlife Wanderings: December 2014

http://wildlifewanderings.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

A diary of wildlife observations. Tuesday, 30 December 2014. Wangled another night at the murmuration. SOMEHOW I managed to wangle another night watching the starlings with my beloved; I. I must have done something good in a past life)! We had been to Burnham-on-sea, as we had a yearning to see beach and sea - which we did, and this was on the route back - well sort of! Burnham has a huge sandy (and muddy) expansive beach, which was being enjoyed by lots of people with their lively dogs:. That did not st...

Wildlife Wanderings: March 2015

http://wildlifewanderings.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

A diary of wildlife observations. Saturday, 28 March 2015. Happy Anniversery to me! It's pure coincidence that this weekend(ish) sees the anniversaries of my "web presence" (does that sound a bit weird? By presence, I am not including twitter or other social media, but rather my website and my blog:. When to Watch Wildlife. Was started in March 2005. When it occurred to me that there was nowhere on the web which provided a calendar of what interesting nature events happened each month, and. I am a wildli...

Wildlife Wanderings: September 2014

http://wildlifewanderings.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

A diary of wildlife observations. Thursday, 18 September 2014. Bath made the nationals with its lightning show and Wiltshire with its rain: Daily Mail. Here are my photos of the spectacular lightning tonight in Bath:. And merged together - just for fun! What do you think? Monday, 8 September 2014. We treated ourselves to a wonderful overnight stay in Porlock Bay (with a sea view! On the north Somerset coast, and a walk and drive around Exmoor. In many of the hedgerows robins seemed to be the most vocal b...

Wildlife Wanderings: July 2014

A diary of wildlife observations. Sunday, 27 July 2014. South West Coast Path. A cliff top walk also the SW Coast path to the small peninsula NW of Mortehoe and the predictable, but delightful, locals were in residence, watching the fisherman and also being slightly distracted by the air-sea rescue helicopter practicing manoeuvres. Honeysuckle in flower along the coastal path. Spot the seal (top right). We thought it best to sit still until they had finished. What do you think? Once past the grasping bra...

Carl Bovis Nature Photography: April 2015

http://carlbovisnaturephotography.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Carl Bovis Nature Photography. Nature and bird photography from in and around Somerset, UK. Sunday, 26 April 2015. Hudsonian Godwit in Somerset! They don't come much rarer! So Saturday started just like so many before. Up early and off to work. I need the overtime, new cameras don't pay for themselves! Also 3 young children, a Flat Coated Retriever, Somersets oldest cat (probably! A Chameleon and 2 Ball Pythons don't pay for themselves either! We walked over the road and made our way to the scrape where ...

Carl Bovis Nature Photography. Nature and bird photography from in and around Somerset, UK. Saturday, 31 May 2014. Brilliant birds at Shapwick Heath and RSPB Ham Wall. Yesterday I spent a wonderful 4 hours at the neighbouring nature reserves Shapwick Heath and RSPB Ham Wall. It was a very overcast day and the light was terrible for photography, but it didn't stop me snapping away anyway! I mostly got only record shots thanks to the low light, but the birds were stellar! We walked over the foot bridge to ...

Carl Bovis Nature Photography. Nature and bird photography from in and around Somerset, UK. Sunday, 14 April 2013. A week in Woolacombe! A couple of months ago I booked a week in Woolacombe, Devon with my family for an Easter break. I was expecting lovely weather to be honest, but it turned out that Winter didn't want to hand over the British environment to Spring just yet and the resulting weather was wet, cold and windy! Being a lover of wildlife photography, this wasn't great news! I still had a nice ...

Carl Bovis Nature Photography. Nature and bird photography from in and around Somerset, UK. Saturday, 22 March 2014. RSPB Greylake. Reed Buntings and Chaffinches galore! After nearly a year I finally managed to replace my damaged 70-300mm Nikkor lens! I had been using a very cheap version that I bought in 2006, and to be quite frank, the quality of the pictures left a lot to be desired! Feels great having a decent lens again! Here are some of the pictures I managed today;. Above - Reed Buntings. Victoria...

In The Garden: Little (not quite native) Orchid

http://jennigarden.blogspot.com/2015/07/little-native-orchid.html

Friday, July 31, 2015. Little (not quite native) Orchid. This little orchid, Helleborine orchid, that I thought was native , is actually an introduction from Europe. It likes to grow in the shadier areas of our lawn and garden, or pop up in a flower bed. It is a perennial and in some parts of the US is considered invasive, but it certainly is not aggressive where we are in Ontario. It's an easy plant to miss because this is what it looks like from above - not very exciting with dull brownish flowers.

Carl Bovis Nature Photography. Nature and bird photography from in and around Somerset, UK. Thursday, 30 July 2015. Little Owl, young Roe Deer and my fave July nature pics! So it's been a while since my last blog post. I always lose my photographic mojo during the Summer months, maybe it's because the light is often too harsh, or because the trees and bushes are so green and the undergrowth is so lush that a lot of the nature is hidden from view, but it's my least favourite Season to take photos. Earlier...

Carl Bovis Nature Photography. Nature and bird photography from in and around Somerset, UK. Tuesday, 30 December 2014. Peregrine, Water Rail and Stonechat. and a Greylake sunset! Yet again, the Sun shone down on me on my day off, so after lunch I grabbed my camera and made my way to RSPB Greylake, one of my favourite places and so close to home! I grabbed a couple of shots before it dashed back into the undergrowth! A pair of Stonechats were flitting about the Bullrush heads in the middle of the lake, an...

Carl Bovis Nature Photography: Butterflies, Bees and a few birds.....that's August!

http://carlbovisnaturephotography.blogspot.com/2015/08/butterflies-bees-and-few-birdsthats.html

Carl Bovis Nature Photography. Nature and bird photography from in and around Somerset, UK. Monday, 17 August 2015. Butterflies, Bees and a few birds.that's August! As birds are harder to find and photograph in Summer, I notice more nature photographers concentrate on the more visible bugs and assorted mini-beasties! Photographing small creatures with a mega zoom lens is quite a challenge, but one I relish! A Kingfisher also landed on the 'Kingfisher perch' in the middle of one of the lakes, the first ti...

Wildlife Warrior Ellie Gonsalves

Growing up surrounded by some of Australia’s iconic animals I was always an animal lover. So naturally after experiencing what the team do at Australia Zoo. And at the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital. I knew I had to be apart of their vision; That people, the wildlife and habitat survive and prosper without being detrimental to the existence of each other. After all, we have a responsibility to help maintain and improve our planet. The Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital. The Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors.
