The World of William Johnston 1866 - 1955. The 1880s and 90s. Marriage and The Turpies. The Johnston Turpie Summit. On 7th March 1904 William Johnston married Ethel Gertrude Turpie, the daughter of Thomas Turpie of Glasgow and Annie Turpie (nee Richards) of Swansea. According to the local paper, the wedding was of 'quiet character and took place at the house of the bride's mother. Following the ceremony 'the bridal party left to go to their honeymoon trip to Los Andes across the Cordillera to Europe'.

It seems likely that William may have been employed by Mr Briggs in his early days in Ireland.
