Wilsons Point Historic Scottish site opened on Sunday June 7th, 2009. In attendance will be Lieutenant Governor Hermenegilde Chaisson and Lucille Campey, author of the book With Axe and Bible a history of the Scots contribution to the development of New Brunswick. Also our Member of Parliament Tilly ONeill-Gorden and Minister of Public Safety John Foran will be in attendance. Entertainment was provided by the Miramichi Highland Dancers. Fredericton District Pipes and Drums. Junction Hwys 8 and 108.

The Collection

Collection: Management and Maintenance. The MacDonald ethnologic collection shows more than 780 original artefacts acquired by donation over the years. This collection allows us to really see how life was for the MacDonald family at that time. Around 500 original objects are on display, mostly inside the house. The barn’s shelves display a few artefacts as well. Furthermore, a collection inventory of the house and other buildings is scrupulously done every year.

Welcome to the MacDonald Farm Provincial Heritage Place! A Must-See cultural attraction located in Bartibog in a pastoral setting overlooking the Miramichi River. A tour of the restored property, in the company of costumed guides, will take you back to the 1820s when the family of Scottish settler, Alexander MacDonald, helped to develop the area. Savour the smells of traditional foods, view embroidery and domestic crafts, and observe gardening and the daily chores required for the care of farm animals.

A Little History

The MacDonald Farmhouse was likely built between 1815 and 1820. A survey of a number of documents tells us of Alexander MacDonald, the builder of this house. Alexander MacDonald married Grace McLean, probably in 1790. She was a native of the Island of Eigg, and may have been the daughter of an established family, or of a Loyalist. The MacDonalds first child, James, was born in 1792, and twelve more followed at regular intervals until 1815. A bustle the world seems to be in.

The House

Built in the Palladian Style, this stone house is a simple classical 2½ storey house. The stone for the house probably from the Bartibog sandstone quarry. The 19th century stonework can best be described as being randomly coursed, with quoins at the corners. View the Provincial Heritage Place listing on the. New Brunswick Register of Historic Places.
