Our members come from all walks of life and live in and around Winchester. Our volunteers have wide experience in helping people who have had strokes. They are all CRB-checked and the majority have received training from The Stroke Association and Speech and Language Therapists at the RHCH. Several volunteers have themselves had strokes. We are affiliated to The Stroke Association.

Stroke Support Group - Winchester and District | Activities

Activities focus on maintaining the physical and mental level already reached by members and, where possible, encouraging further improvement. Emphasis is placed on the active participation of members in discussion groups, arts and crafts, keep fit, computing, reading, writing or communication by any means possible, outings, music and talks on interesting subjects. A qualified physiotherapist leads exercise sessions, all of which are gentle and can be carried out while sitting.

Our meetings are held at. St Barnabas Church Hall. We usually meet on Mondays from 2.00 to 4.00 pm. Occasionally we go on outings to a local garden centre or for a pub lunch and we try to have a one-day outing during the summer. We have breaks for Christmas, Easter and the month of August. We do not meet on bank holidays. We ask for a weekly subscription of £2.00 which contributes towards the cost of tea, biscuits, a raffle and group costs. There is free parking at the Hall.
