Winding Roads and Close Calls

Winding Roads and Close Calls. July 15, 2010. Redwood Country Flea Market. I've been hitting this little gem since I was a little gem myself. Located just about two miles from my mother's house in Connecticut, Redwood. Should be filled with antiques and treasures, but each year it seems to be in steady decline from the days of my childhood in the 1980s (think of the old Dick and Ellie's in Mashpee. Which is now a shopping plaza, or Elephant Trunk's. To be had anymore since the raid. The nostalgia for thi...

Winding Roads and Close Calls: What Was I Thinking?

http://www.windingroadsandclosecalls.blogspot.com/2010/07/what-was-i-thinking.html

Winding Roads and Close Calls. July 5, 2010. What Was I Thinking? Over the weekend, I got it into my head to run the 32nd annual "Four on the Fifth". His first half-marathon. So despite his forewarning that running in this heat was hard, last night I decided to go ahead with it. I ran the Reindeer 5K in 19 degree weather, and I had run 4-5 miles a couple times this year; I could do this. What the hell, right? But, Chester is a beautiful little town, which my mom and I had never visited before. On the...

Winding Roads and Close Calls: June 2010

http://www.windingroadsandclosecalls.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Winding Roads and Close Calls. June 24, 2010. School ended on June 3rd, but, for me, it feels like it just ended Tuesday. I decided to cram in a grad class right as school was ending, which, on top of working each day, made for a busy first two weeks of summer. Matt and I just drove 20 hours or so from Faribault to Portage, Indiana to North Syracuse, New York ( check out the journey from Matt's perspective. Oh, and I did sort through most. Winding Roads and Close Calls: June 2009

http://www.windingroadsandclosecalls.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

Winding Roads and Close Calls. June 30, 2009. Woods Hole, Massachusetts. I love the ocean, so visiting Cape Cod is always a welcome change from Minnesota. One great spot to visit is Woods Hole. Which is a small village at the tip of the elbow of Cape Cod. It's part of Falmouth, the town where my father lives. When I was younger, I had a summer job out here at the Marine Biological Laboratory. There are docks here for the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. I've come here hundreds of times, and I've never...

Winding Roads and Close Calls: April 2009

http://www.windingroadsandclosecalls.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Winding Roads and Close Calls. April 19, 2009. The Maple Syrup Run. This morning I woke up to a cold, gray, rainy day, which was not exactly what I wanted to see after a long winter in Minnesota and right before I was heading out for my 5K. I put on a pot of coffee and then took my dogs out for a walk to wake up a little bit. 5Ks (not that I have that. Only 22 minutes and 3 seconds off world record pace (Tirunesh Dibaba, 2008). Of course, that wasn't cross-country. April 16, 2009. Every morning, I arrive...

He Says, She Says: He Says, Maker's Hits the Mark

http://travel-mates.blogspot.com/2008/07/he-says-makers-hits-mark.html

He Says, She Says. A Travelogue From Both Points of View. He Says, Maker's Hits the Mark. On Saturday, we met our friend Nate outside Frankford, KY and headed to Buffalo Trace Distillery. Hitting the distilleries was really something I was dragging Courtney to, and Buffalo Trace got us off to a slow start. Really slow. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Courtney and Matt 2008. He Says, She Says. A Travelogue From Both Points of View. What happened in Vegas? So, here it is (Thanks, Mike). Tomorrow, Courtney and I set off for our travels and will be dropping in with updates from the road, and you will get to read all about each stop from both of our perspectives. He Says, She Says: She Says, Get Stupid

http://travel-mates.blogspot.com/2008/06/she-says-get-stupid.html

He Says, She Says. A Travelogue From Both Points of View. She Says, Get Stupid. I don’t think Get Smart. Is worth writing about, much less wasting the past two hours when I could have been packing for Road Trip ’08. I don’t keep my crush on Steve Carell. Secret, and I was hoping for some magic on the screen at the little F- bo. And Matt's dancing to "4 Minutes" was way more entertaining than the flick. 8217;t as painful as he is in The Office. 8217;t have chemistry or make me laugh. That’s it. ...8217;t ...

http://travel-mates.blogspot.com/2008/06/he-says-louisville-slugger-propaganda.html

He Says, She Says. A Travelogue From Both Points of View. He Says, Louisville Slugger Propaganda Museum. This morning we packed up our camping gear and headed for the Louisville Slugger Museum (with a quick stop at Waffle House for covered, peppered hash browns). The waitress called me "Big Guy"- congenially, Courtney said. I ordered a Diet Coke. And an exhibit of baseballs signed by presidents. However, lets get real. These were the three highlights:. He Says, She Says. A Travelogue From Both Points of View. Baseball Novice Learns Batting Gloves Are Not Just Fashion. I like museums, but I wasn. 8217;t super-thrilled about going to the Louisville Slugger Museum with Matt and Nate. Of course, we showed up an hour before the museum even opened, which was lucky (eh-hem) because we could take undisturbed photographs of the 120 foot tall bat that decorates the entrance of the museum. But, once we entered the museum, I caught a little of the bug. Knacks with...

He Says, She Says. A Travelogue From Both Points of View. I Haven’t Got Time for the Pain. I hate bourbon. I don’t care if it is 51% corn, crafted with limestone water, and aged 20 years in virgin oak barrels in the unique Kentucky environment. It tastes thick and hot at first, and then it burns as you swallow. I don’t understand it, and I don’t like it. The Bourbon Trail, Kentucky. Courtney getting bored at Buffalo Trace. Matt and Nate getting bored at Buffalo Trace. Matt attempting to swim in mash.

He Says, She Says: Get Smart?

http://travel-mates.blogspot.com/2008/06/get-smart.html

He Says, She Says. A Travelogue From Both Points of View. Okay, I know this is a travelogue, not a movie reviewery, but I have to say that Get Smart. Big mistake. It might have been a better movie if we watched it without sound. Honestly. The good news for travelers to Faribault (see, I can tie this debacle into a travel report) is that a movie at the Faribault Cinema is only $6. And there is a good chance you will have the theater all to yourself. Right off 35 at exit 56. Come one, come all.
