Who do you say that I am? | a reasonable faith

Making a defense for the hope that we have. Who do you say that I am? April 2, 2015. Roughly 2,000 years ago a man lived who would change the times and the seasons. No ordinary man, to be sure. In fact, so extraordinary that his life intersects with each one of ours today, as it has with all those who have gone before and those that have yet to live. What do you make of Jesus of Nazareth? You can blow off the question, but if you don’t answer it now you’ll have to answer it later. What do you make of him?

Book Review - 10 Books That Screwed Up the World. November 18th, 2009. Galatians 6: 8 states “The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature. Will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.” This idea is shown further fruition in Benjamin Wiker’s 10 Books That Screwed Up the World. 8220;Common sense and a little logic tell us that if ideas have consequences, then it follows that bad ideas have bad consequences. And even more obviou...

The scandalous cross | a reasonable faith

Making a defense for the hope that we have. April 3, 2015. This was originally posted last April. It’s like wearing a tiny electric chair on a chain. That’s how a pastor at our church once described the offense of the cross of. Jesus Christ. He was talking about how something so dear to us as Christians because we know what it means for our salvation, and which many of us wear around our necks as a symbol of our faith, can appear utterly ridiculous, disturbing, and contemptible to others. It excites scor...

Fatherlessness, and the foibles and faithfulness of females | a reasonable faith

Making a defense for the hope that we have. Fatherlessness, and the foibles and faithfulness of females. April 28, 2015. What a dichotomy in Baltimore. A tale of two women. One, the mayor, speaking to the media after the mobs supposedly protesting the death of a black man in police custody became violent, looting and destroying property, gave tacit permission. I think this politician needs a basic civics lesson in what the right to free speech entails. Ne also wonders what would be different if all these...

Making a defense for the hope that we have. Obstacles, objections, and obviousness. April 15, 2015. I’m on a missiona mission from God. ‘Cause I have seen the light! Oh, Jake and Elwood. I hope JakeJohnis still doing backflips on account of he has literally seen THE Light, and was not turned away but welcomed into his presence. I wrote before about the hiddenness of God. A light seen in the distance when you are in a dark place will draw you to it. An overpowering, blinding light will cause you to cl...

The hope of happiness | a reasonable faith

Making a defense for the hope that we have. The hope of happiness. May 1, 2015. In the debate over same-sex marriage and homosexuality, just as in other issues about which people disagree, the answer to one question will mostly determine which side one will support:. Or perhaps more specifically, what is our purpose for being, or what is the goal at which we are to be aiming? A To glorify God and fulfill his purposes for me, or. Seems to me goals outweigh desires in importance. But supposing now that the...

Making a defense for the hope that we have. May 15, 2015. Clark Beckham. If you don’t know the name already…you likely will. He should have won it, if you. Ask me, but came in second place on American Idol Wednesday night. This young man has heart and soul, and a beautiful voice to express them. I don’t know that anyone really cares what I think about sex in the entertainment industry, but can I tell you something? J-Lo is beautiful and seems like a very nice person. But watching her perform makes me...

Making a defense for the hope that we have. You’re free to practice your religionas long as you don’t bring God into it. April 10, 2015. That’s the message we Christians have been getting lately. Our First Amendment guarantee of free exercise is conditional on submission to government-sanctioned ideologynot God. If in obeying him we end up offending someone, then our exercise is no longer free but costly and restrictive instead. Let’s just keep God out of this, shall we? Such is the unspoken sentiment.
