12304;よもやまNY】パラレルワールド クィーンズ！ ニューヨーク留学中のほとんどは、マンハッタン郊外の「クィーンズ」と呼ばれるエリアに住んでました。郊外といっても、近いところは地下鉄で30分、遠くて1時間半ぐらい。当時、クィーンズはマンハッタンに比べて家賃もかなり安く、アジアやエスニック食材のスーパーや、安くて美味しいレストランが多く、節約したい私ににはもってこいの場所でもありました。多種多様な移民が住んでいるエリアでもあり、クィーンズではネイティブの英語を聞くのは稀だったけど、この前（5月）に行ったときは大分英語圏に開拓されていたようだった。 一番はじめ住んだ町は、大きなインド人街とメキシコ人街が隣同士の「Jackson Heights（ジャクソンハイツ）」というところ。一つ前の駅には90%インド人向けの商店、次の駅ではメキシコ人用商店しかないという、ニューヨークの中のパラレルワールド。 ちなみにこれはニューヨークだけではないかもしれないけど、アメリカのサンドイッチやコーヒーの頼み方は日本よりも複雑。人それぞれ好みが違ったり、パンやミルクの種類も豊富なの...それから驚くなかれ！な...
