The Woman with All the Answers. A Peaceful Heart and a Happy Home →. A Letter to My Son Upon Graduation. A letter to my son upon his high school graduation. So proud of him! Love is not easy to put into words, especially a mother’s love, the depth of which is unfathomable. Each chapter has a specific lesson that God, in His all knowing wisdom, sees that you must learn. Painful chapters draw us near to Him, and joyful chapters illuminate the glory and wonder of our world. Both are important. You’ve ...

Steve Mowles' Blog. This is my novel about recovery, redemption and bulldogs. I will be adding new chapters on a regular basis. Laquo; Speaking In Minor Keys 2. Speaking in Minor Keys. Where you headed scruffy? Me too, hop in. Rusty tossed his duffle in the truck bed and stepped up into his ride. He watched as Diana gracefully moved the column shifter through the gears. Just the sight of her gave him hope. The cutoffs and sleeveless shirt looked good on her trim figure. Large brown eyes a...Diana’s laugh...

Denise H. Long. Sure is dusty around here… →. February 25, 2015 · 5:48 pm. Time keeps on slippin’, slippin’, slippin’…. To give you an indication of how my 2015 is going so far, I just tore off January from the little fridge calendar we have. February ends this weekend. So, yeah. Things have been busy. I went to the Tin House Winter Workshop. At the end of January. It was amazing. I am still trying to find the time to write a proper blog post about it. I’ve been writing. Not as much as I’d like, but ...

Self Editing | The Backstory Cafe

WHERE CHARACTERS COME TO PLAY. I’m working on a personal piece of writing this week, but the go is slow. There’s a dark scowling editor hovering over my shoulder making all kinds of judgements. Every time I get a few sentences down, he rolls his eyes. I’ve hardly got a full page done. 8221; he hisses. “Don’t even hint or wink a knowing wink about it. I delete my words and try again. You can’t tell people about. 8220;Put a smile on your face and play nice,” he warns, tapping the delete button for me.

WHERE CHARACTERS COME TO PLAY. Growing up, I remember Papa telling stories at the dinner table. My grandfather liked to talk about his youth, but avoided his early childhood, which I know he’d spent with thirteen brothers and sisters, few who’d lived as long as Papa. His stories all starred himself as a young teen, as if that’s where his real life had begun. 5 thoughts on “ My Literary Legacy. April 5, 2014 at 12:51 pm. What endearing memories to have. It’s such a treat to hear of our elders...Great s...

Another Milestone Here and Gone. May 13, 2015. It is the last day of school for my daughter today. This afternoon, we become parents of a 4th grader. As I type these lines, small tears start to form in my eyes. I tilt my head backwards to keep them from streaming down my face. Today, though, I looked up at her, attempting to memorialize this particular moment as it happened. She is all long legs, tan skin with her hair styled the way. Isn’t that how it is meant to be? On May 13, 2015 at 11:00 am. Next we...

The AstroTurf her grandfather had stapled to the dock was itchy and ridiculous. The wooden planks looked like they’d grown grass. The ducks thought it was marvelous, though. They’d cover the dock each morning, preening and napping, leaving feathers for her to collect. Maxi has never seen her do this. Someday she would ask the m...
