Wine, food and other pleasures: December 2014

http://winefoodotherpleasures.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Wine, food and other pleasures. Thursday, 11 December 2014. Chilli venison casserole with chocolate. This is based on a recipe from Slow Cooking: Best New Recipes. By Annette Yates and Norma Miller which doesn't look or sound terribly inspiring, but has become my slow cooking bible. It serves 6 people. 900g stewing venison, cut into cubes. 3 rashers of streaky bacon. 12 shallots, peeled and sliced into quarters. 2 red chillies, seeds removed, finely sliced. 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg. 1/4 tsp ground allspice.

Wine, food and other pleasures. Wednesday, 14 May 2014. Simply baked fish and veg with Knorr Flavour Pot. The people at Knorr recently sent me some of their new Flavour Pots to try out. If I'm not using home-made stock (usually chicken) and I need to pep things up I use Marigold powdered stock or Oxo cubes, so I didn't mind giving these little pots of seasoning paste a whirl. Wine, food and other pleasures. Saturday, 31 January 2015. Posh Chinese and Provence Rosé. This doesn't sound the most obvious combination, but a recent dinner at Hakkasan. I particularly liked Stephen Cronk's flavoursome Mirabeau Côtes de Provence 2013 (available from Waitrose at £8.99. But do take a look at his entertaining website. At this time of year, when your palate feels a little jaded or if you need a refreshing treat after a dry January, a light dry rosé could be much more energising and satisf...

Wine, food and other pleasures. Tuesday, 17 June 2014. Agly Valley by train: vineyards, gorges and Cathar castles. The last time I sat in a rail carriage gazing at breathtaking vineyards was in Portugal's Douro Valley. However, this time I was in Roussillon on the seasonal Train Rouge. In the Financial Times. Jancis Robinson explains how significant these wines were historically. In the mid 20th century a jaw-dropping 70 million bottles of vins doux naturels. From the Rivesaltes appellation were sold ann...

Find me a drink. THE roast chicken wine. December 18, 2014 · 3:40 pm. It’s nearly Christmas and that means the season of eating and drinking is upon us. I’m partial to a festive cocktail or two and these recipes are perfect for using up those extra ingredients you have lying around the kitchen at this time of year. Got some cranberries going spare? Try the Christmas Southside. 35ml Tanqueray London Dry. With any leftover mincemeat, go for a Mincemeat Irish. 50ml Sainsbury’s Irish Cream. Add all of the in...

Find me a drink. Monthly Archives: February 2015. February 2, 2015 · 9:38 pm. Today has got to have been the coldest of winter so far. When I arrived home this evening, it took a fair while to thaw out my icy fingers and toes, and that was with gloves and thick socks on! If, like me, you’re in need of a glass of something warming on such an evening, pop down to Aldi and pick up a bottle of the plummy Vignobles Rousselet Pinot Noir. Or the rich, cherry-spiked Venturer Costières de Nîmes.

Find me a drink. Monthly Archives: June 2015. June 9, 2015 · 7:56 pm. A recent trip to Rome has reintroduced me to the tangy, bitter-sweet flavours of Aperol. An Italian aperitif made using a ‘secret’ blend of bitter orange, rhubarb, vanilla and various herbs, this orange drink is widely enjoyed in Italy and is fast becoming a summer staple of mine. You can pick up a bottle of Aperol in most UK supermarkets for around 15. Filed under Taste Test. Everything is just peachy. Award-winning reds for Easter.

Should a specialist wine bar sell cocktails? Do the cocktails interfere with the wine? Do the cocktails prevent people from experiencing our wines? Do I have any moral or philosophical objection to cocktails?

Tuesday, 15 July 2008. James St Cook School - Asian BBQ Quail. What do you get a 27 year old for their birthday? I was really hoping for a new camera lens – the Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 (to fill the much needed wide-angle gap for my 400D). What Steph got me instead blew my socks off. A cooking lesson at the James St Cooking School! So to start with, here is the recipe for the Asian BBQ Quail. Here’s what you need:. 4 tbsp sweet soy sauce (ABC/Kechap Manis). 4 tbsp oyster sauce. 2 cloves of crushed garlic.
