Tuesday, October 21, 2014. Light and Lovely Reds of the Hudson Valley. Never was the difference between east and west coast wines more apparent than during my recent visit to the Hudson Valley, New York, as a participant in a wine blogger weekend known as Taste Camp. I am no fan of the heavy, jammy style of red wine. That can be found in countless bottles from California. While subtler styles exist, there is no arguing with climatic differences between the coasts. Hudson Chatham Baco Noir. Is another lig...

http://www.wineloversjournal.net/2014/05/my-dinner-with-oscar.html

Sunday, June 8, 2014. My dinner with Oscar. Wouldn't you like to have dinner with a wonderful Portuguese? Last night some new friends and I dined with Oscar - which is a wine (technically two - a white and a red) but also a member of the Quevedo. I met Oscar Quevedo Jr. in 2009 at the European Wine Bloggers Conference in Lisbon. And h e still writes his family's winery blog. Yesterday Oscar was at Columbia Wine Company. Wine Lover's Journal: January 2014

Saturday, January 25, 2014. La Fiorita Brunello and the hot date at home. 8220;Shall I open the wine? 8221; my friend asked as he began preparing a magnificent dinner for two. I was about to jump in the shower. “No that’s okay.” I had only been thinking of not getting started on this bottle as an aperitivo – I wanted to make sure we saved it for the duck confit to come. The wine in question was a lovely bottle of 2007 La Fiorita Brunello di Montalcino. Throughout the candlelit meal of duck confit with wh...

Tempranillo Tango: Harvest 2012!!!

http://coralmustang.blogspot.com/2012/09/harvest-2012.html

Musings from the Mustang Winemaker. Sunday, September 16, 2012. Yesterday was the first day of harvest for the Tres Palmeras Vineyard which is exclusively for Coral Mustang Wines! I love these mornings- there was a little fog, 47 F- had to put the big jacket on. Then the fog burned off and the sun came through- beautiful and couldn't have been more perfect. These grapes are now in a tank cold soaking and waiting to ferment. That will kick in in a couple of days- magic! Cheers from the Mustang Winemaker.

Musings from the Mustang Winemaker. Wednesday, December 9, 2009. The Long Harvest is Over- time for Beer! This has been the longest harvest that I have ever been through.and survived! My home vineyard, Tres. Is a great example of waiting for the flavors to develop. During this harvest I had the opportunity to represent California winemaking. Kong- the Coral Mustang was there! Job at Rack and Riddle Custom Wine Services has teamed up with Crush Pad to do sparkling wine, what a fun adventure! I plan to be ...

Musings from the Mustang Winemaker. Monday, July 14, 2014. Hi to all readers! It has been a while since I have written. As many of you know I am also the winemaker for Rack and Riddle Custom Wine Services. We have just recently moved the operation from Hopland to Healdsburg. This was a phenomenal task! So back to Coral Mustang. Considering the drought, the last late rain is still keeping the vines running. Timing for harvest is looking average- the crop looking average as well. Links to this post. Tempranillo Tango: January 2011

Musings from the Mustang Winemaker. Monday, January 17, 2011. Assessing the wines and how processes worked to produce those wines is also happening so that any changes can be started now. Last harvest brought a lot of challenges- molds, less than mature grapes, sunburn- things that I see, just not in the magnitude that I had this last harvest. So being ready for these situations is always warranted- though I hope not to see this happen for at least another 20 years! Posted by The Mustang Winemaker. Wine ...

Tempranillo Tango: April 2010

http://coralmustang.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

Musings from the Mustang Winemaker. Saturday, April 3, 2010. Is it really Spring? In the meantime there are wines in the cellar waiting for bottling and wine to sell- plenty to do! Selling wine this year has been a challenge- lots of wine out there and good wine. But tightening of the pocketbooks are keeping sales down. But I am seeing more requests for Tempranillo and an acceptance in general of varietals that may not be mainstream- variety is the spice of life! Posted by The Mustang Winemaker. 4126 - M...

Tempranillo Tango: March 2010

http://coralmustang.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

Musings from the Mustang Winemaker. Friday, March 19, 2010. It's Spring and Budbreak! It is hard to believe how quickly time goes by. I am just cleaning up from the last harvest finishing up wines to put to bed in barrels or get ready for bottling. And now I feel the push for the new years harvest. The Tres Palmeras vineyard was finished with pruning about a month ago. Now budbreak is upon us! It is beautiful here- the wildflowers, the blue sky, green hills- breathtaking! Musings from the Mustang Winemaker. Friday, October 1, 2010. The Neverending Harvest and Sad News. Harvest started for me the second week in August and looks like it will be mid November before it ends. For some in the field it started even earlier and will end later. Harvest is a time of constant adrenaline, little sleep, and lots of pizza and burritos- I love it. The smells, the challenges, it is all an incredible rush for me. Posted by Penelope Gadd-Coster. Tempranillo Tango: March 2013

http://coralmustang.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Musings from the Mustang Winemaker. Tuesday, March 19, 2013. Bud Break in the Vineyard! Seems like I just finished harvest and now I am thinking about it again. The weather has been absolutely beautiful but worrisome. We definitely could use some more rain which everyday seems to loom just off the coast or just to the north or anywhere but here. Well off we go- another harvest is around the corner! Penny, The Mustang Winemaker. Posted by Penelope Gadd-Coster. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Tempranillo Tango: December 2011

http://coralmustang.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

Musings from the Mustang Winemaker. Sunday, December 4, 2011. 2011 Harvest is Finished and Lookin' Good! The one big difference this year was when the rains came, much of the fruit was sound enough to make it through. The Tres Palmeras vineyard was one of them. Last year we had to give up on the fruit. This year was very low yielding, but at least I was able to get some fruit for all the labors of the year and it is tasting yummy! Posted by Penelope Gadd-Coster. Links to this post.
