On The Road Again: Travelling, eating and drinking with Winsor Dobbin: The hippest little cellar door bar in the Yarra Valley
http://gourmetontheroad.blogspot.com/2015/08/the-hippest-little-cellar-door-bar-in_13.html
Thursday, 13 August 2015. The hippest little cellar door bar in the Yarra Valley. It is just across the road from the Healesville Hotel and Barrique Wine Store, and directly opposite the funkiest public toilet block in Victoria. Mac Forbes, one of the Yarra Valley's most innovative winemakers, earlier this year opened a new tasting facility in the heart of Healesville. The Graceburn Wine Room is part cellar door, part wine bar, part funky place to hang out with cool kids and even cooler wines. The Graceb...

Friday, 7 August 2015. Oliver's Taranga Small Batch Vermentino 2015. A few sips of this and I want winter to be over already. Lots of summer time love oozing from the glass here. Zippy fruit. Lots-a-lemons with a lemony sherbet tang. Crisp and delish, flavours are clean and fresh. Yes please. Take this to the seaside or bring it to me. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). QWine - Australian Wine Reviews: Te Aro The Charging Bull Tempranillo 2014
http://qwineblog.blogspot.com/2015/08/te-aro-charging-bull-tempranillo-2014.html
Monday, 10 August 2015. Te Aro The Charging Bull Tempranillo 2014. Feed me meat. This stuff just screams for it. Earthy, tar and certainly aromas of violets. There's a charred meatiness about this wine which has me hooked in. A dry grainy and dusty tannin finish only propels the need for tapas or something meaty off the coals. I'd happily go back for another glass. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Vinomofo - 48 hours free shipping. The Lane Vineyard Block 3 Chardonnay 2014. Cooks Lot #333 Riesling 2015.

QWine - Australian Wine Reviews: Lindeman's Pyrus 2013
http://qwineblog.blogspot.com/2015/08/lindemans-pyrus-2013.html
Tuesday, 11 August 2015. This just hums away like a cool R&B tune. Everything has its place yet all the parts work together seamlessly. A blend Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. Blue and black fruit, tomato leaf, aniseed, balanced oak. What you get is pure and inviting. Complex and layered, there's a depth to it yet it sits on the balls of its feet with enthusiasm. There's no heavy or sinking feeling here. Savoury herbs chime in before a wash of soft tannins flow through. De Iuliis Semillon ...

On The Road Again: Travelling, eating and drinking with Winsor Dobbin: How an artisan Australian gin made the world sit up and take notice
http://gourmetontheroad.blogspot.com/2015/08/how-artisan-australian-gin-made-world.html
Sunday, 16 August 2015. How an artisan Australian gin made the world sit up and take notice. Stuart Gregor doesn't like to be reminded about it, but more years ago than either of us care to remember I was a feature writer on the Sydney Daily Telegraph and he was my copy boy - excellent at getting cups of coffee and fetching old newspaper clippings. The ebullient Stuart Gregor. He was smart as a whip even then. Four Pillars has branched out. The first Four Pillars. The first gin was "made in a truly moder...

On The Road Again: Travelling, eating and drinking with Winsor Dobbin: An excellent base from which to explore three wine regions
http://gourmetontheroad.blogspot.com/2015/08/an-excellent-base-from-which-to-explore.html
Saturday, 8 August 2015. An excellent base from which to explore three wine regions. Staying in motels in country regions of Australia can be fraught with pitfalls. There are motels with wafer-thin walls so you can enjoy sharing the activities of your neighbours; motels with no wifi, or where the bath towels are the size of a dish cloth. If you want to stay in a town, however, then Strathalbyn, a 10-minute drive away, is your best bet. And the Strath Motel offers comfortable digs at affordable prices...

On The Road Again: Travelling, eating and drinking with Winsor Dobbin: A Hobart hotel that's cheap but not so cheerful
http://gourmetontheroad.blogspot.com/2015/08/a-hobart-hotel-thats-cheap-but-not-so.html
Friday, 14 August 2015. A Hobart hotel that's cheap but not so cheerful. I often need to stay in Hobart overnight (wanting a bed only) and have two budget, but very good, hotels where I can stay for under $100 a night. My two favourites are the Alabama Hotel in the city and Montacute in Sandy Bay. Neither offers en suite bathrooms but both are charming, impeccably clean and full of character. I quickly made a booking. Big mistake. I should have done my research. Reports). It just isn't very good. Even wo...
