Wirksworth Community Choir is a thriving, mixed, community choir of more than 20, attracting members from a wide area. We meet weekly for rehearsals during term time. It has been in existence since the 1980s, when it began as an evening class. Our conductor, Lynn Dean, is an experienced solo and choral singer - a founder member of the internationally-renowned Cantamus choir - and a singing teacher. This characterful, historic building on St John Street offers the potential to become a multi-purpose venue. A recent Heritage Lottery Fund award of over 100k for a development phase has enabled the organisation to start seriously planning for the future. Wirksworth Archaeological Society
The purpose of the Society is to carry out archaeological work within and around Wirksworth in the Peak District. Although we are principally interested in the Roman and Mercian periods, and have a specific project (The Wirksworth Roman Project) we also cover any archaeological issues which relate to Wirksworth and its immediate hinterland, whatever the period concerned.
