Lori Bentley's art. Advent Challenge 23 – sunshine and sandals. December 23, 2013. When we were moving from America, back to South Africa, a child asked us this question: “When do you celebrate Christmas in South Africa? In South Africa, we also have the delight of a dogdy parastatal electricity company and thunder storms that play havoc with the supply at times. We have rechargeable lanterns on hand, but they have a limited life span and are particularly useless should you forget to plug them in. Well i...

Lori Bentley's art. March 28, 2014. I got a request from my friend Leslie of spectacular quilt fame. 8220;Josh’s dear friend Emily is marrying Jeff on Jan 25th. I’m wondering if you could paint a watercolor for them with the intersecting hearts, their names and even the date if it fits the design. Emily is an extraordinary musician. I even took violin lessons with her a couple of summers ago.” Leslie was thinking of this. Little commission I did for Running with Brushes back in August. The artwork I crea...

Lori Bentley's art. Advent Challenge 20 – Joan Aiken and friends. December 20, 2013. Posted a link on facebook to a page on the website Illustration Cupboard, where some of Jan Peinkowski’s illustrations are for sale. It was like stepping into a time machine and being whisked back to my childhood. My reading life took off the day I picked up my first Joan Aiken book. The Wolves of Willoby Chase. I loved the inky scribbly illustrations by Pat Marriot. Kingdom Under the Sea and other Stories. Thanks Lori &...

Lori Bentley's art. Advent Challenge 21 – in good taste. December 21, 2013. One of my favorites is the mango and vanilla. Salt scrub and body butter from the African Indigenous range. Just opening the container and taking a sniff makes me wonder if it’s edible, it smells so yummy! I highly recommend the Basil and Lemongrass Mosquito Repellent Lotion. It works and it’s non toxic – something I worry about with all the mass-market sprays – and you smell nicer! Is a small artisan truffle company, with truffl...
