The Dog Dooner Cafe': October 2008
http://thedogdoonercafe.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html
My Friend Abby on Calling. For ConEd, we visit each other's churches and are expected to lead a worship service. My friend, Abby, did one on calling. After reading some passages on specific calls, she gave this homily:. Who are these people? We come here today as people who have answered a call, most likely with fear and hesitancy. Can we trust this man from Nazareth? Can we trust his words to be enough? Are we ready for this life of service? Choosing life, pt. 3. Read pt. 1. And pt. 2. I was in the midd...

The Dog Dooner Cafe': A Sermon for Holy Saturday
http://thedogdoonercafe.blogspot.com/2010/03/sermon-for-holy-saturday.html
A Sermon for Holy Saturday. To Sit and Wait. What a week. Six days ago we were on a high. We sang songs of Hosanna. We saw the prophecies fulfilled. The words of the Psalmist were shouted by the people of Jerusalem: “Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! The next day we returned and listened as our worst fears were confirmed. Jesus was crucified. We sat together in silence, then ate in silence- everyone feeling like they should say something, no one knowing quite what to say. One element ...

The Dog Dooner Cafe': May 2009
http://thedogdoonercafe.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
The choir I sing with at school is known for it's version of Wade in the Water. It is easily the most requested piece we perform. The song begins with my friend M. singing from the audience. The song builds as the choir appears from within the gathered people. Layer upon layer of music is stacked, one upon the other. Chanting- wade in the water, wade in the water. They're desperate for you to join them- -"wade in this. At our most recent concert, the single voice lamenting its situation cut me like never...

The Dog Dooner Cafe': The Agony in the Garden
http://thedogdoonercafe.blogspot.com/2010/04/agony-in-garden.html
The Agony in the Garden. Whatever veil of mercy shrouds the dark. Wound that stops weeping in no one, cannot. Stop the torrent of night when it buries thought. And heart beneath the black tears of the earth. Through scragged bush the moon discovers his face,. Dazed inside the sound of Gethsemane,. Subsiding under the weight of silence. That entombs the cry of his terrified prayer. What light could endure the dark he entered? The void that turns the mind into a ruin. The Agony in the Garden.

The Dog Dooner Cafe': March 2009
http://thedogdoonercafe.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
What are your thoughts on God? For the next little bit, I'll be responding to questions my friend, M. asked me a week or so ago. Well, M. Jump right to it. What are my thoughts on God? Well To start, I would say that I have no idea who God is. For all the thinking and writing and researching and reading and praying and experiencing I've done (which is a lot and not all that much at the same time), I would have to say that I have no idea who God is. Have some of those. Lot's really. Here are two. There is...

The Dog Dooner Cafe': Confused by the Spirit: a sermon for Haiti
http://thedogdoonercafe.blogspot.com/2010/01/confused-by-spirit-sermon-for-haiti.html
Confused by the Spirit: a sermon for Haiti. Originally preaching on Sunday, January 17 using the Epiphany 2C lectionary readings. The service that had been planned for this Sunday was scrapped the day before in light of the tragedy of Haiti. Confused by the Spirit. But as the reports continued to flood in and the scale of the tragedy in Haiti began to come to light, there was simply no way we could gather today and sing “Joyful, Joyful.”. Do you remember Jesus’ reply? It’s shocking, not at all the ...

You're My Rushmore, Max: My Birth Story--Delivery
http://youremyrushmoremax.blogspot.com/2015/05/my-birth-story-delivery.html
Sunday, May 3, 2015. My Birth Story- Delivery. It was finally time to push! Dr Thomas actually came in for the entirety of my pushing and delivery (most doctors come around mostly to catch the baby! She said this was the best part and why would she want to miss it! Very early on you could see and feel that tiny head of hair! It was encouraging to see and feel progress. It wasn't exactly how I'd imagined labor and delivery going- and definitely wasn't what I'd hoped for our baby's first few days of life- ...

You're My Rushmore, Max: February 2015
http://youremyrushmoremax.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Monday, February 23, 2015. We've officially crossed over from doctor's appointments every 4 weeks to doctor's appointments every 2 weeks! Where'd the time go? This time around we saw the PA as Dr. Goolsby was busy in Labor and Delivery. Everything is still looking good and I walked out of this visit with the added bonus of a TDAP shot. We hit 28 weeks and so it was back to the doctor for a check up! All in all we are doing quite well! Wednesday, February 4, 2015. Babymoon to Big Sur. Enjoyed the stunning...
