Devin Hodgins - Day Dreamer: July 2015
http://devinhodgins.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
New Horizons unto Pluto. I remember a writing prompt from fifth or sixth grade, almost thirty years ago:. If you could visit any place in the solar system, where would you go and what would you do? I wrote: "I would go to Pluto and have a snowball fight.". Today will be the closest I'll ever come to such an escapade as New Horizons finally reaches Pluto and allows us to lift the veil over its dark, icy realm. For all the latest information. Devin Hodgins - Day Dreamer: Essays
http://devinhodgins.blogspot.com/p/essays.html
Aleph Infinity Plus Imagination. Yet, infinity, by definition, is that which is not finite, a realm abiding without end, beyond all bounds, beyond all reach. For imagination to be truly infinite it must reach that which cannot be reached. Nevertheless, imagination does reach the infinite- even if only by reaching toward the infinite. Fatalistic skeptics might also proclaim that since a person’s physiological functions end at death, a person’s imagination cannot be endless. Once consciousn...Another provo...

Devin Hodgins - Day Dreamer: September 2014

I am currently enrolled in a professional development course entitled "Basic Astronomy For Educators." We meet every Thursday evening at the Casper Planetarium. Now, I have a pretty firm grasp on the fundamental astronomical information, but I am learning quite a lot about how to teach astronomy to school children. One of the tools our instructors presented to us is a program called "STELLARIUM.". It's a "free, open source planetarium for your computer.". And it is amazing! Download it now for free.

Devin Hodgins - Day Dreamer: June 2014
http://devinhodgins.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
On this, the first Fathers' Day after my Dad died, here is the poem I wrote in the remembrance card for his funeral:. A day we wish would never end. Though we know it must,. As now we abide. Whilst the boundless depths. With all the relentless. Yet as the twilight fades. We harbour no fear nor sorrow. For you always let us know,. Even within our souls,. That in the night, however dark and deep,. Awaits the peace of sleep and of dream,. And that as today passes away into yesterday. So now as the day ends.

Today was the last day of my three-week assignment of teaching at our school's summer "Jumpstart" program. My class consisted of second graders going into third grade. My first real job as a teacher in charge of my own class, it proved to be a wonderful experience. Yet, I am now more astounded than ever at how profound a moment of learning can truly be- not only as the teacher, witnessing my students learn, but also as the learner, with my students ever and always teaching me. Devin Hodgins - Day Dreamer: June-July Conjunction
http://devinhodgins.blogspot.com/2015/07/june-july-conjunction.html
A wonderful sky last night! That led a few wise sky-gazers, seeing His Star in the east, to a humble abode. It might have been some other mysterious occultation; nevertheless, how intriguing.) Standing there, beneath the sky and before the horizon, we were all astonished and amazed as the planets shone so dazzlingly and blazingly bright together. Then, I sat quietly on my back porch, alone save with the silence of the wind, and watched until Venus and Jupiter set. Wondering all the while. Science is gold...

Devin Hodgins - Day Dreamer: April 2015
http://devinhodgins.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
My goal is to write every day. In my formative days, I always had a goal of a thousand words per day: four pages, or so. Doesn't seem like much, but that pace would produce 365,000 words a year- the equivalent of three or four novels. I have come nowhere near meeting that goal for what seems like ages, ever since I finally decided to break down and go to college. For all that ceaseless while, almost every word I've written has been for school work. Still, even if as cold molasses, the ink keeps flowing.
