Saturday, August 20, 2011. On the way to Charleville we went through Ilfracombe, where their museum lined the main road with old farm machinery and steam engines. We were intrigued by the name of the Hotel who's name was Wellshot Hotel dating from 1890. The interior contains memorabilia from the height of the wool-station era. Thursday, November 11, 2010. 7th/8th and 9th November, 2010. We stayed at Coolangatta Kirra Beach Holiday Park. Coolangatta has changed since our last (separate) visits in our teenage years, when along the beach were guest houses which supplied a bed and 3 meals a day, they also organised different outings and boat cruises. Tuesday, June 28, 2011. Fitzroy Crossing W.A. We are now staying at Fitzroy Crossing, River Lodge. Fitzroy River has a catchment area over 90 thousand square km. which is larger than Tasmania. The water flowing downstream could fill and empty Sydney Harbour in less than half a day (what a waste). During nthe wet season the town becomes isolated and is commonly known as Fitzroy Island. Saturday, August 6, 2011. Longreach is sometimes called the capital of the outback, it is home to the famous Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame, Qantas Founders Outback Heritage Museum. While driving around Longreach, you'll notice that the streets are all named after birds. The streets that run east-west are named after waterbirds and those that run north-south are named after land birds. We spent most of the day at the Stockman's Hall of Fame it is known for its marvellous museum.
