Wolds End Photography

Tuesday, 22 May 2012. The Clouds Go On Holiday. Sun was forecast for today. The early morning mist looked different, a prelude to a hot day? Wishful thinking, no, a breeze got up, the mist went, it became a sunny day. I walked out of the shower and Wolds-End Tom appeared wanting attention. After a good fuss he walked off and went under the bed (his hideaway), strange, he loves being outside, especially on a day such as this. I had plenty to do, but this day was too good to miss. A pair of Grey wagtails w...

Wolds End Photography: March 2012

http://woldsendphotography.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

Friday, 23 March 2012. A Reason to Return. The recent launch of the Yorkshire Nature Triangle website. Made me decide it was time I visited Tophill Low Nature reserve. It has been on my list of places to visit and with the membership starting on April 1st I thought it a good idea to have a quick walk around to see if I wanted to join this year. With limited time I headed to what they call D reservoir and was slightly disappointed that it had a wall running around it but then I saw the good sized hides.

Wolds End Photography: November 2010

http://woldsendphotography.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

Saturday, 6 November 2010. Bempton - Chatting on the cliffs. An autumn visit to Bempton revealed a far different place than in the summer. The cliffs are now more or less deserted as the breeding seabirds have departed. The tide was in and the relaxing sound of waves against the cliffs replaced the summer sounds of nesting birds. It is hard now to imagine all these nests occupied. And enjoyed a fine lunch. Time was against us and soon the light started to fade. It was the time when predators start to...

Wolds End Photography: April 2012

http://woldsendphotography.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

Monday, 30 April 2012. Hidden Mandarin and Sneaky Fox. A birder who was just leaving told me a Mandarin duck could be seen in the reeds and directed me towards the right hand hide. On route I saw this Wood pigeon. And this Cuckoo flower. Moving to the other side of the hide there was not much about close up other than this Mute swan. I decided to move to the other hide. The sun was continuing to break through the fog. I watched some Tufted ducks who came close to the hide. Posted by Wolds End Tog. I arri...

Wolds End Photography: December 2010

http://woldsendphotography.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

Friday, 10 December 2010. With the current bad weather times are hard for the regular feathered visitors to our garden. Temperatures have fallen even further than in my last blog post now down to -14ºC and perhaps a few degrees even lower than that. There has been more snow and the birds have spent longer in the garden as it is even harder for them to find food in the wild. Failing to find lunch it flew away and our garden was deserted by the usual birds for sometime. Posted by Wolds End Tog. We usually ...

Wolds End Photography: A Trip to the Tip

http://woldsendphotography.blogspot.com/2012/05/trip-to-tip.html

Monday, 14 May 2012. A Trip to the Tip. Today I had to go to the coast. Not a bad thing to have to do. Driving through the Wolds, passing through the calm villages of my ancestors, bathed in sunlight, with fresh green leaves on the trees, bright yellow in the fields, blue sky with white clouds as clean looking as freshly laundered bed linen, was a pleasant thing to be doing on a day like today. Tasks completed and lunch had, I decided it was too nice to head inland again. Close by was a Pied wagtail.

Reculver and east Kent wildlife: April 2012

http://reculverandeastkentwildlife.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

Reculver and east Kent wildlife. Monday, 30 April 2012. At Shuart. I ran all the way to the car and got to Shuart as quick as possible, and set off up the track to the railway line. Taking time to look in the clearings along the hedge, I suddenly noticed the oriole flying distantly across some fields. I finished the day with a short visit to Chambers Wall, where the highlight was a sighting of a Stoat at close range. Of course, as I lifted the camera it disappeared into the hedge. Friday, 27 April 2012.

Reculver and east Kent wildlife: January 2012

http://reculverandeastkentwildlife.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html

Reculver and east Kent wildlife. Sunday, 8 January 2012. Sunday 8th January 2012. Westerly breeze F3-4 easing off, dry, overcast and mild. Monday, 2 January 2012. The start of a new year. Breezy, cool westerly winds, bright sunshine. I drove inland and found somewhere of my own for a while. Quietly I crept up to where 2 Bewick's Swans have been seen, and trying not to disturb the birds I pointed my lens through some hawthorns and took a few photos. A summary of December 2011. Rather nice to see were 2 ri...

Reculver and east Kent wildlife: Norfolk Hawkers at Westbere

http://reculverandeastkentwildlife.blogspot.com/2013/07/norfolk-hawkers-at-westbere.html

Reculver and east Kent wildlife. Sunday, 14 July 2013. Norfolk Hawkers at Westbere. Other dragonflies seen on my walk were 2 Brown Hawkers, an Emperor, I'm pretty sure there was a Hairy Dragonfly go past while I was watching the Norfolk Hawkers, several Scarce Chasers, loads of Black-tailed Skimmers, Banded Demoiselles, Red-eyed Damselflies, Common Blue, Azure and Blue-tailed Damselflies. 14 July 2013 at 11:36. 14 July 2013 at 15:04. 14 July 2013 at 15:27. Well done Derek a brilliant find. I AM NO EXPERT.
