such a rainbow of a cardie | a handmade life
http://blockaday.com/such-a-rainbow-of-a-cardie
A little bit about lily. Such a rainbow of a cardie. February 17, 2015. So I had this bag of Zara I bought at Wondoflex’s Annual Spring Sale. I was certain there would be something I could do with it and the colours were oh so pretty. Within minutes of arriving home, I found the perfect pattern – Alpinia by Claire Slade. That I simply couldn’t justify casting on yet another cardigan. But once we were home from our summer holidays – during which I so adored knitting Mum’s Pitch. Alas, I have only had one ...

the Roslyn quilt | a handmade life
http://blockaday.com/the-roslyn-quilt
A little bit about lily. January 19, 2015. Ages back when my quilting machine was on the blink, I went through a phase of tying my quilts. This coincided with a period of feeling rather overwhelmed by machine quilting. Nothing I attempted ever looked good enough to my super critical eye. I decided – with a humph! Well, guess what! Its blanket backing is a New Zealand Roslyn Health blanket – you can read all about it here. One that employed so many hundreds of people, one that then shipped their lovely pr...

A little bit about lily. Afternoons in the summer backgarden. February 18, 2015. February 18, 2015. Living in Melbourne for the last 5 years has granted me an entirely new appreciation for the sun and its warmth, for brightness and colourful cheer. One could almost call it an obsession. See, in Brisbane, it is almost always hot and usually sunny. There is so much colour and brightness it almost verges on the garish, and our upper legs were usually stuck together with sweat! The dogs, of course, come volu...

A little bit about lily. The building of a tensioning frame. March 31, 2015. March 29, 2015. For my recent birthday, Abigail gave me this beautiful McAdoo Rug design for needlepunching. Melts my heart – she’s our Merimbula mermaid for sure, reminding me of the lovely mornings Julian and I snorkel down at Bar Beach, collecting mussels for our breakfast as the morning sun splashes like champagne across the water. A deck by the dam! Oh yes, there will be much fun had with this little beauty! Now Julian does...

A little bit about lily. The thoughts of a very new nurse. March 13, 2015. I’m counting it as a blessing that I’m able to see the good in almost every shift combination I work at the hospital. Oh it’s so lovely to be home by 4.30pm and have a slow, peaceful late afternoon and evening extend before me. A late? I love a morning at home – get up with the family, make breakfast, take Abby to school, potter about with my patchwork and chores then meander on into to work for a 1pm start. But then, this afterno...

A little bit about lily. Pitch : a cardigan. January 25, 2015. Far south new south wales. That wasn’t hard – I’ve had Pitch. At the top of my list for a few months now! I cast it off just in time to wear home – a cold and drizzly journey that turned into! Until finally, Mum appeared and demanded “Give me the bloody cardigan to wear and YOU take the photos just how YOU want them and let poor Abby get back to what she was doing! 8221; Mum was very pleased. It will be perfect for her in Merimbula, especiall...

A little bit about lily. The unexpected quilt with a square. April 20, 2015. April 21, 2015. There’s been a bit of quilting this past weekend. Perfect weather for it – grey, gusty and wet – we even had early morning thunder and hail! And this here quilt needed to be finished. It has been sitting on the sewing machine, needle in the down position, since I fell over at work 3? Ahhhh … as my Nanny says, “You always were awkward Lily! 8221; But back to the quilt …. You must visit her site – her work is...

A little bit about lily. A little bit about lily. I’m so glad you’ve dropped by. I am Lily Boot – mother to Noah, wife to Julian, and registered nurse. Around these busy roles I squeeze in my other passions – patchwork, quilting, embroidery, knitting, crochet, reading, and the restoring of old furniture. At the moment we are living in a sweet little bungalow on a busy tramline in one of Melbourne’s inner suburbs, along with our dear little dog Fu, and a wonky eared rabbit.
