My Time in Belize: My Sister Sylvia
http://meganinbelize.blogspot.com/2011/07/my-sister-sylvia.html
My Time in Belize. Tuesday, July 5, 2011. When I am getting to know people it is always common for them to ask questions like: “where is your mother? 8221; “are you married? 8221; “how many children do you have? 8221;, and “how many sisters do you have? 8221; I have noticed that they rarely ask me, “where is your father? 8221; or “how many brothers do you have? So basically the conversation always goes like this:. Q: how many sisters do you have? Me: none, I just have one brother. 8221; “no” ...8221; I g...

My Time in Belize. Tuesday, August 30, 2011. Where does time go? Where does time go anyway? Its been two years since I moved to Belize, and it is coming up on my time to go home. Sometimes it feels like I have been here forever, but a lot of the time I can't believe. It it almost over. So here is a bit of what is going on in the last couple months. Thanks to a lot of help from my mom and others back home, we will soon have books for our school! Friday, August 5, 2011. Learning to wash my clothes in the r...

My Time in Belize: July 2010

My Time in Belize. Friday, July 23, 2010. My House Under Attack. I have had a bit of a crazy week in my house. I think that the rain is making all the animals (and children) act a bit crazy. For some reason my house seems like a reasonable shelter to them all. They are also building in my water house, but I decided I can live with that for now. Me: Your goal cannot be my front door, okay? Juan: It is not your door, see the cans? Monday, July 5, 2010. I can't believe it is already July! The beginning of t...

My Time in Belize: December 2010
http://meganinbelize.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
My Time in Belize. Friday, December 3, 2010. So normally one would expect a blog entitled "November" to follow the one entitled "October" since we are now in December. However, I am having a hard time grasping the idea that November is already over. Where did it go? This year, though, I have had goosebumps and actually have said the words "I'm freezing" in the middle of the day. Since when should I want a long sleeve shirt when it is the mid-upper 70s? This all leads me to two thoughts. Anyway, Tropical ...

My Time in Belize: April 2011
http://meganinbelize.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
My Time in Belize. Saturday, April 2, 2011. This thing called integration. So how much can I really fit in in a village of Mayan people? This is the question that goes around in my head a lot. I have definitely made myself a home here that I enjoy and feel very comfortable in. As I wander around, most dogs no longer bark at me, only one baby still cries, and most everyone just waves, says "byebye Megan! Or invites me in to visit for a bit. Why don't you marry so and so and stay here forever? Nicelia: la'...

My Time in Belize. Monday, December 19, 2011. I don't want to write about all the goodbyes because after three weeks at home I can still feel the anxiety and emotions of leaving the village, but I do want to write about the goodbye party the school held for me :). The week before I left I started getting comments from the kids of "did the principal tell you we will have a party? So after all of that and some hugs, we all went to have lunch together. My last day with the feeding program. Thanks Ir...Getti...

My Time in Belize: June 2010
http://meganinbelize.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
My Time in Belize. Tuesday, June 8, 2010. So my host sister came to me one day and said "Megan, I have a parrot! And the poor parrot was laying in the box dead. I had grown pretty attached to the squawking little creature and will miss him! I am proud to say that my village has 3 new high school graduates! Before this year only one person in the village had ever completed high school, but two boys and one girl graduated from High School this month. Thursday, June 3, 2010. I haven't updated in a long time...

My Time in Belize: A Few Notes on Coming Home
http://meganinbelize.blogspot.com/2011/10/few-notes-on-coming-home.html
My Time in Belize. Thursday, October 13, 2011. A Few Notes on Coming Home. I purchased a plane ticket. So I guess that means it is official :) I will be home on the 4th of December. The plan is to leave my village sometime around 16th of November, and travel for a bit before coming home. My brother will be down here as well, so we will be hanging out in Belize, Guatemala, and flying home from Cancun. So here are a few of my favorite in the just beginning saga of goodbyes:. Me: I am going home soon, Anaya.

My Time in Belize: Mom's Words :)
http://meganinbelize.blogspot.com/2011/08/moms-words.html
My Time in Belize. Friday, August 5, 2011. Highlights of my week in the village with Megan. Going to a wedding party three days after the wedding in which all the family and friends help the bride and groom open their presents, then take down the decorations, and then feed you. Food is always a part of any get together in a Mayan village, so we had fresh tortillas and duck caldo. Meeting the wonderful people who have taken Megan into their community and their hearts. Again, Megan and I shared a lot of la...
