Daily thoughts on managing talent. How will you manage? 8220;If you stumble in safe country, how will you manage in the thickets beyond the Jordan? So, as I begin this project, I am armed with a parallel Bible — one that has four different translations lined up side by side. I chose one that includes the New International Version (NIV), the New Living Translation (NLT), the New King James Version (NKJV) and, my favorite, The Message (MSG). However, when I found this verse, I was struck by the wisdom of it.

Carpenter's Shoes: September 2013
http://carpenters-shoes.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Monday, September 30, 2013. It takes quite a bit of self-discipline to just stop. But I do have my PhD work and I intend to use every moment of this time productively on my thesis! Links to this post. Friday, September 27, 2013. On referring to 'my church'. This is one of the oddities of the way we speak. We use 'my' to mean things that we own exclusively, such as 'my squash racquet' or 'my breakfast', but we also use it to mean places that we belong such as 'my school' or 'my squash club'. Is your exper...

Carpenter's Shoes: October 2014
http://carpenters-shoes.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Tuesday, October 21, 2014. My daughter turned 21 a week ago. She had friends and family around over the weekend. We had a beautiful day for it. Links to this post. This was parked at the back of the Ravensmead Church last Sunday. The rain has eventually stopped (mostly) in Cape Town and church attendance is picking up. It is also actually light when the early services start. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Antioch Crossing Blog Community. Church and Theology Blogs.

The words said were "Lord, send your Holy Spirit upon Jenny Hillebrand for the office and work of a Minister in the Church of Christ.". I feel privileged to have had such a group pray for me! Carpenter's Shoes: November 2013
http://carpenters-shoes.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Tuesday, November 19, 2013. I feel like I have been holding my breath for the last few weeks! We heard yesterday, at the very last possible moment that we have finance to buy a house in Cape Town. Apart from anything else, we now know where we will be moving to when the removal truck comes in two weeks time! This house is not only a place to stay, but a bit of security for our kids who are going to be studying at UCT. We are not planning on leaving Cape Town, but the church could send us anywhere! At fir...

Carpenter's Shoes: June 2014
http://carpenters-shoes.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Friday, June 20, 2014. For those who are interested, I thought I would write down what happens in a MCSA probationer's ordination year. For me, it was interesting to see the picture that the committee had drawn of me. I have a terrible tendency to accept people's conception of me and 'play along' and this has been exacerbated by the church training. I suppose also I have become aware of it, so this is a good thing. My own screening interview was fine. The next evening sees the witness service where all t...
