Wonky Patchwork: March 2015

A blog about fun, colourful patchwork, sewing, thrifting, children and crafts generally. Follow me on pinterest. Tuesday, 31 March 2015. 1) I thought it was about time I shared some yoyo love. I've been hand sewing these here and there for the past couple of months. The plan is to use them on a quilt, and I'm itching to start the quilt, but I'm being quite disciplined and want to finish Maria's quilt first. There's a little pile on the left not spread out, I got a bit bored arranging them towards the end!

Whisk the egg whites till stiff and white, then in a different bowl whisk the yolks and sugar till pale and thick. Gently fold the whites into the sugar mix, and then also fold in the flour/baking powder. Put into greased tins and cook in a medium hot oven for approx 10 mins. And sewed them together (right sides together), all.

Wonky Patchwork: December 2014

A blog about fun, colourful patchwork, sewing, thrifting, children and crafts generally. Follow me on pinterest. Wednesday, 24 December 2014. Christmas Eve has been, generally, a good day. A few sibling squabbles here and there but plenty of fun, lots of lovely smells and food, and, fortunately, very productive all round! Pompom making finally finished. I think we have 20 white pompoms to string like this, as well as quite a few red ones that went on our driftwood tree. Mince pies were made and eaten.

I think I may have a new sewing obsession - Pixie Hats! This is from a pattern by Big Little. Aimee from Small Steps Big Noises. First introduced me to these gorgeous woodland inspired sewing patterns a while back, she has made quite a few beautiful pieces from Big Little, like this Wild Things Hooded Scarf. I learned that making a round of delicious homemade cheese is just as easy as making a loaf of homemade bread! Making delicious, soft and spreadable cheese from yogurt. The yogurt is salted, wrapped in cheesecloth, and left to drain in a fridge overnight. The next day it is heavenly cheese. Fresh, raw milk is the best mi...

Sharing crafts, quilts, and back to the land projects. More Pages Coming Soon! Wednesday, 29 January 2014. Here are some of my Works In Progress (WIPs) on the quilting frontier. 1 Queen Batik Quilt. I had great fun making Half Square Triangles (HSTs) for the windmill squares in this quilt. Unfortunately I seem to always insist on learning through experience and, as a beginner, I made a boo-boo that I'm sure will greatly affect the quality of my finished quilt. 2 Fuzzy Robot Quilt (for David). He built a beautiful house up on his hill, looking out at the ocean. It was beautiful and unique, full of stained glass windows, and it had an octagonal living room. The coolest part about this house was the cement lizards built into the foundation. They were sculpted to look as if they were holding up the house. And here is his new house! Yesterday t...

Sharing crafts, quilts, and back to the land projects. More Pages Coming Soon! Saturday, 25 October 2014. Nine Patch, Three Cheese. I am working away on my denim nine-patch quilt. I LOVE this quilt. It is super thick and heavy and WARM! I have been hand quilting it so I get to cuddle under it while I work. The denim is surprisingly not that hard to quilt through. I realized that because my favorite part of making a quilt is usually hand sewing the binding, maybe I just love to sew by hand? Yes, I do!

I dot I suppose the dot is limitless. The dot can exist as a barrier sealing something out, and it can be a space you peer into. Is zero infinite? Overlapping circles describe a deep space. Maybe the thing you are looking at isn’t a dot at all, but a circular grouping of thousands of smaller dots. Maybe this is why I often use materials in a repetitive way.
