Boats Covering the build, sailing the boat and the scamp community that has formed around this little portly boat. Sunday, July 26, 2015. Bronze ring for centerboard cover removal. While in Port Townsend I stopped by the Chandlery. And picked up a pull ring and a closed anchor chock. The anchor chock will go on the bow. The pull ring was an easy install, so I did that today. Deck trimming, cabin sides - Craig's SCAMP build
http://craigdbryant.weebly.com/scamp-build/deck-trimming-cabin-sides
Deck trimming, cabin sides. I needed to trim the edges of the deck even with the carlins, and with the gunwales. I started using a hand plane, but it was too difficult to keep from taking a bite out of the supporting piece, so I decided to try using a router with a bottom bearing bit. The next morning (actually, later in the same morning!

Getting ready for planks. 40 some-odd cleats were coated, on two sides, with 3 coats of epoxy (1 coat, sand all, 2 coats same day, sand all). Talk about tedious - since I don't have a detail sander (or don't yet - on the Christmas list), sanding of the cleats was done by hand. Finally, all of the filled screw holes have to be scraped and sanded - I am almost done with this. The sides forward while the epoxy cured. Seat top cleats on the side of the centerboard case are clamped rather than screwed. Next, ...

A journey to sail Scamp number 284. A blog about SCAMP ( Small Craft Advisor Magazine Project. Boats Covering the build, sailing the boat and the scamp community that has formed around this little portly boat. Thursday, July 2, 2015. I ordered some vinyl lettering from DIYLettering. Lindsey helped me decide on fonts and placement. It arrived today and I installed it with no problems. Looks very nice, I think. And certainly I need some tent material, but I'm going to cut a pattern with a tarp.
