AJ Irwin: February 2008
http://ajirwin.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html
Thursday, February 21, 2008. I like simple, interesting things. Here's a picture of a lunar eclipse (2008 Feb 20) visible across much of Canada taken with a plain-vanilla digital camera (Canon A620). It was a cold night (-15°C) so I took the picture indoors. The reflection from the 2 panes of glass created a nice double image. (Actually there were other images, but they were quite faint and I've cropped them off.). Posted by Andrew Irwin. Sunday, February 17, 2008. I've added some pictures of Sackville.

AJ Irwin: March 2008

Monday, March 10, 2008. 8 year mesocosm with 10 functional groups. Beninca, E., Huisman, J., Heerkloss, R., Johnk, K. D., Branco, P., Van Nes, E. H., et al. (2008). Chaos in a long-term experiment with a plankton community. Nature. 7180), 822–825. The headline is 'chaos in plankton', but this is a fascinating tale even without that spin. Beninca et al report populations of phytoplankton and zooplankton, sampled twice a week over 2,300 days, in a 90 litre mesocosm seeded from the Baltic Sea. 8 year mesoco...

AJ Irwin: Holiday snapshots
http://ajirwin.blogspot.com/2008/02/holiday-snapshots.html
Sunday, February 17, 2008. Every once in a while you see something on the web and instantly know it's a great idea - panoramio. Is such an idea. It's a fusion of photo albums with Google maps - you can browse the globe and find snapshots as you pan. I've added some pictures of Sackville. But there were quite a few there already. Several years ago I found the degree confluence project. Which is also great - but quite a bit more specialized. Posted by Andrew Irwin. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
