Handworks Show, Amana, IA. Handworks Show, Amana, IA. May 8, 2015. Listen to the gentle chisels gliding through wood, the swish of the hand-plane as curls of semi-transparent shavings flow off the workbench. The atmosphere is peaceful, there is talking and laughter among the woodworkers. The blood pressure lowers…. Watch a Sample Lesson from my Online School. Your Free Membership offers 12 Free Lessons. Thoughts from my shop in the woods. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. February 25, 2016. I built another project for my hand tool nook in the apartment. Naturally needed a place for small tools and accessories. I made a hand tool shelf, out of cherry, to hang above my petite Roubo. This is the second project I’ve done completely with hand tools (with the exception of milling the boards). It wasn’t until I was nearly done that it occurred to me to add rare earth magnets to the size...

Thoughts from my shop in the woods. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Roubo’s Apartment Workbench pt. 1. June 9, 2015. Now I have not confirmed with The Schwartz but I do not believe Roubo ever made it to this side of the pond. If he did he probably would have moved to Brooklyn, with the rest of the French hipsters. As a Hand Tool School member I admired Shannon’s Joinery Bench. This seemed perfect. I liked this one in particular. Please let me know if you know the owner! I have certain...

Thoughts from my shop in the woods. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Give me Liberty or give me Tools! December 31, 2015. This summer I made the pilgrimage to Liberty Tools. I had to drop my son off for camp in Portland, Maine. I was by myself so I figure I’d trek a little further north and check out the hand tool mecca I’ve read so much about. I’ve gotten more into hand tools lately and thought I would see what I could find. Stopped in at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship. It is ...

EPISODE 4 - the secret of festool. Snickerdoodle Sunday link party. First Web Giveaway contest! Episode 3 - festool benefits. Episode 2 - why i bought the ts55. Entrepreneurship is like jumping off a cliff and trying to build an airplane on the way down. Is there a certain dollar amount to the IRS that has to qualify as capital (aka depreciable deductions? Also as I understand it, I need to make a table of all my tools, what I paid for them, assign a percentage of "personal use" and then use the MACRS ta...

Wednesday, 21 October 2015. Bedside tables (nightstands) - Part 13 - Lining the drawers and making drawer pulls. The customer stated that green baize was to be used to line the bottom of the drawers. So I got some self adhesive felt baize that I have used several times before and cut it to size. Peeling the release paper. The finished results are very good. I used a couple of counter sunk wood screws in the back of each drawer to act as stops. Screw into the end grain of the dovetail. The finish of Arm-R...
