Woodworking with hand tools. 8230;to all of you! My new year is going to become an interesting one, I’m quite sure about that. For now, I don’t have much time for woodworking, unfortunately, but that should get better in a few months. Well, maybe, we will see. At least, I got my hands on wood again, and a lot of fun it was, too. So much for now – thanks for reading! By Michael on January 2, 2011. 8 Responses to “Happy new year”. I will never complain again about my shop being in the low 50’s (F)...

Marking gauge | Woodworking with hand tools
https://handtoolwoodworking.wordpress.com/2010/07/05/marking-gauge
Woodworking with hand tools. As previously discussed at Wood’n’bits. Woodworkers have a need for. Marking gauges. Since I owned only one, and figured that my poor woodworking skills might somehow be related to this lack of measuring devices, I decided to build this particularly nice, one-hand-adjustable example. The article from Popular Woodworking can be downloaded for free, and I highly recommend it. After something like two hours in my shop (at something like 35 C, feel free to convert this here.

Getting rid of the Schwarz syndrome | Woodworking with hand tools
https://handtoolwoodworking.wordpress.com/2010/07/19/160
Woodworking with hand tools. Getting rid of the Schwarz syndrome. As previously mentioned, one of the few remedies for the Schwarz syndrome is building a workbench. This weekend, I have worked hard at going through therapy and have made some progress. I faced a problem when I wanted to assemble the complete base: I had no means to pull the whole assembly together. The joints of the long stretchers were rather tight and I didn’t want to buy 1.20m long clamps for this single purpose. The ...I used a simila...

The Schwarz syndrome | Woodworking with hand tools
https://handtoolwoodworking.wordpress.com/2010/07/12/the-schwarz-syndrome
Woodworking with hand tools. Recently, the Schwarz syndrome has been described in the literature. It seems to be a highly contagious disease which spreads rapidly through the internet woodworking community. The main pathways of infection seem to be the blog. Of The Schwarz and his book. Other infections are reported from sources like work-in-progess reports in woodworking forums and blogs such as here. That whole bunch being leftovers, I paid a ridiculous price for the wood (leaving some room for, uhm, t...

Handtool woodworking class – update | Woodworking with hand tools
https://handtoolwoodworking.wordpress.com/2010/06/07/handtool-woodworking-class-update
Woodworking with hand tools. Handtool woodworking class – update. I noticed that it has been quite a while since my last post – sorry about that! I have been busy with a lot of non-woodworking stuff…. Pretty, aren't they? For the finish, I planed and scraped the whole thing, and added two coats of boiled linseed oil. The BLO brought out the colors really nicely, especially the walnut got a very deep shimmer (my English leaves me here…). So far, thanks for reading! By Michael on June 7, 2010. Jay on Happy...

Holdfasts: Forge your own | Woodworking with hand tools
https://handtoolwoodworking.wordpress.com/2010/11/07/holdfasts-forge-your-own
Woodworking with hand tools. Holdfasts: Forge your own. That has been a rather long period without new posts. I sincerely apologize, but I have been busy with a lot of non-woodworking stuff. Also, a cradle has been added to the to-build list. My new workbench hasn’t seen much progress in the last three months. However, I am now the proud owner of two brand-new holdfasts, forged by me, myself and I. And now, please excuse me – in the last months, billions of blog posts waiting to be read by me have ...

Handtool woodworking class – project finished | Woodworking with hand tools
https://handtoolwoodworking.wordpress.com/2010/06/28/handtool-woodworking-class-project-finished
Woodworking with hand tools. Handtool woodworking class – project finished. At last, the stool project that once began in the handtool woodworking class is finished. I finally fixed the top to the base and applied the last coat of finish (bees wax on top of three coats of BLO). For now, I’m happy with the result – see yourself:. The second picture accentuates the wrongly-tapered leg, but hides the splintering on the end-grain side of the top. Note to self: Take care when shooting end-grain. I do like the...

Woodworking with hand tools. Bull;April 20, 2010 • 2 Comments. Some time ago, I signed up for a handtool-only woodworking class here. So far, it’s been taking place four times, and one more time is to come. (It somehow sweetened the start into the week, since it is on Monday evening). Please dont note that gap on the top of the right stretcher. Continue reading ‘Handtool woodworking class’. Bull;April 5, 2010 • Leave a Comment. Update: cool, wordpress now offers slideshows. Getting started | Woodworking with hand tools
https://handtoolwoodworking.wordpress.com/2010/02/03/getting-started
Woodworking with hand tools. So I have decided to get started in woodworking. I have built the occasional bit of furniture before, most notably a writing desk, inspired by this one. In my dad’s workshop, using his table saw and router, and mostly doweled butt joints. Some planes, sniped at Ebay. For the better looking plane, I’m waiting for the water stone from the kit. Also, I found a large jointing plane in my granddad’s garage (no picture yet, and also not yet sharpened). By Michael on February 3, 2010.
