Just another WordPress.com site. August 11, 2011. Lately the word is bandied around our financial markets are in a state of crisis, our credit rating is plummeting, our natural resources gutted. The Clash: once sang:. London’s burning with boredom now. London’s burning dial 99999. Now London is burning. It’s easier to navigate the Op Ed pieces, the endless discussions about a huge crisis and avoid seeing the smaller ones. The collection of 60 hygiene bags for homeless female. Just another WordPress.com site. August 22, 2011. What’s so unusual about an eggplant? Years ago I didn’t know that eggplants were really fruits– sometimes they are classified as berries and have a close affinity with potatoes and tomatoes. 8221; According to a fifth century scroll , fashionable Chinese women used to make a dye out of the skin of purple eggplants and polish their teeth with it until they were a shiny gray.”. Eggplant lineage, names, shapes, and idiosyncratic facts …. We used the largest ...

Word Collage: A Memoir in a Box
http://a-word-collage.blogspot.com/2013/08/a-memoir-in-box.html
Friday, August 23, 2013. A Memoir in a Box. Writing a memoir that doesn't sound like a " and then" story can be a daunting task. What to write and what to omit. Who will be offended? What will be of interest? Imagine writing about a wild panache of events without worrying about tying them together in a sensible narrative. Check out A Magpie-Memoir. My usual question after five minutes was, “Are we there yet? 8221; And one of the usual responses, irrespective of the distance, was “Halfway.”. Halfway was it a good audience? A tolerable audience. They didn’t boo but they often sat on their hands. Full house or empty house? Neither, somewhere in-between. A moderate turnout. Eight people showed up and four of thos...

Tuesday, March 19, 2013. Wolf Hall by Hillary Mantel. Henry VIII, Cromwell, Thomas More—three larger than life personages all appear in Hillary Mantel's book Wolf Hall. While I can't imagine wanting to live in England at that time, I can vicariously, and from a time distance of over 484 years, be involved in the machinations of the realm of Henry VIII. To be released from a marriage in an age when the Pope's authority meant a strict obedience to his Papacy required stealth, cunning and diplomacy. Knowing...

Wednesday, October 12, 2011. Murphy's Law by Rhys Bowen. I usually don't read cozy mysteries, but a friend mentioned Rhys Bowen's series "starring" Molly Murphy after I mentioned an interest in New York City at the turn of the century. That is the 1900's. Perhaps I'm the wrong person to write this review because the entire book was like a long soap opera; however, Molly was quite endearing. Molly is the narrator of the story and it is through her eyes that we meet the O'Connor family and enter their home...

Wednesday, January 16, 2013. Wild by Cheryl Strayed. I just finished reading Wild. By Cheryl Strayed and for the space of three days I was transported to the Pacific Crest Trail. This isn't the usual memoir about someone who loves to explore, has the requisite skill set, and then sets out. Cheryl knows nothing about backpacking nor does she know too much about how to select adequate boots for a 1,100 mile trek. In August the Vail Daily. He told the Associated Press that "Often the places that we fly over...
