Photography 365: November 2011

http://wordsbywalma.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

Photographic Thoughts From New Brunswick. Wednesday, November 30, 2011. Day 334 - A jumpy collection of lights. Links to this post. Tuesday, November 29, 2011. Day 333 - The blurred brick wall. One theme I seem to be exploring of late in my photographs is the idea of different levels in the image, especially the simplest two: the foreground and the background. Links to this post. Monday, November 28, 2011. Day 332 - Beer taps in the sky. Wow Do I ever love this shot! Links to this post. As anyone who rea...

Photographic Thoughts From New Brunswick. Sunday, March 25, 2012. Photographic favourites for August. August was a bit of an off-month, photographically, for me. If it weren't for a trip to the island of Grand Manan, I wouldn't have much to offer in the competition to figure out which is the best photo from August. Check these five photographs out and cast your vote for your fave, either using the Comments feature at the bottom of this page, or any other way you can convey your choice to me. My personal ...

Photographic Thoughts From New Brunswick. Monday, October 31, 2011. Day 304 - Reflections in sharp focus. I don't know. Maybe I play too much with reflections. There do seem to be a lot of photographs on this blog that involve the reflection of one building in the windows of another. And I'm pleased with the balance created by the reflected tree branches to the left of the image and the foreground branches to the right. Cool. Not a bad photo taken with the Olympus on full automatic mode. And, if you reca...

Photography 365: Hotel Paulin makes Caraquet a great place to visit

http://wordsbywalma.blogspot.com/2014/07/hotel-paulin-makes-caraquet-great-place.html

Photographic Thoughts From New Brunswick. Saturday, July 12, 2014. Hotel Paulin makes Caraquet a great place to visit. Some photos from our recent trip to Caraquet, a lovely town on the Acadian Peninsula in the northeast corner of New Brunswick. We stayed at the Hotel Paulin, hosted by Gerard Paulin and Karen Mersereau, to celebrate our 10th Wedding Anniversary and, to put it bluntly, enjoyed the best meal we've had in those ten years. The Baie de Chaleur from our window. Deck chairs outside the Paulin.

Potter Thoughts: July 2015

http://mwwnb-potterthoughts.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

Random thoughts and revelations that occur to me as I read the novels of J.K. Rowling or watch the movies that have been made of them. Sunday, July 19, 2015. Throwaway line raises questions. I caught a very brief moment from The Chamber of Secrets. On TV yesterday and had to laugh. The moment I saw involved Lucius Malfoy and Mr. Weasley at the end of their confrontation in Flourish and Blotts. The book version begins with Malfoy saying to Weasley: "Busy time at the Ministry, I hear.". I will have to be v...

Potter Thoughts: May 2015

Random thoughts and revelations that occur to me as I read the novels of J.K. Rowling or watch the movies that have been made of them. Sunday, May 31, 2015. Is Draco a better wizard than Harry? But what about Draco Malfoy? We rarely, if ever, get even a hint of how clever he is. And yet, from the small hints that appear every now and again throughout the seven novels, it would appear that Draco is a pretty smart kid. Probably smarter, and a better wizard, than Harry himself. Harry, with all of his experi...

Random thoughts and revelations that occur to me as I read the novels of J.K. Rowling or watch the movies that have been made of them. Thursday, June 25, 2015. Sometimes I just wish Jo would leave well enough alone. JK continues to use Pottermore as an outlet for more and more of the backstory she had created for the Harry Potter stories. As a result, it is possible that I am not getting the complete story when I read, for example, the. With which I have real problems:. 1 According to the. She presents A...

Filmic regression: Lupin meets Granger in a strange world. So, Hermione Granger and Remus Lupin are together again! I just caught the teaser trailer for the upcoming film. Random thoughts and revelations that occur to me as I read the novels of J.K. Rowling or watch the movies that have been made of them. Is the working title of a new novel upon which I have started to work. It features the magical world and characters created by J.W. Rowling in her fabulous Harry Potter books. It focuses, however, on three of the lesser characters and how they move forward after the events of Rowling's seventh and final novel, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Minding my own stitches.

Random thoughts and revelations that occur to me as I read the novels of J.K. Rowling or watch the movies that have been made of them. Tuesday, July 14, 2015. Who Fears Death, Harry Potter? It is true that there are only a limited number of stories available to tell. Dress them up as you might, you are still basically telling the same stories that have been told over and over again in the past. And it has been told and retold many times in western pop culture over the years:. With impoverished and practi...

Respecting the intelligence of young readers. It's been an interesting experience, as much because there are really very few interviews available from the early days - before or as, say, the second book was written - as because of what I am learning from the interviews themselves. So he had kept this bag handy, ready to take to the wilderness at a moment’s notice. In war, he had never needed it. In peace, however, it gave him the freedom simply to walk away, to leave his former life behind and seek out a new path. It held everything he would need for a new start. Defending Rowling's first post-Potter novel. Let's talk about A Casual Vacancy. For a minute, shall we? I then found a mint condition hard cover copy of A Casual Vacancy.
