nearly | Words that sing

https://wordsthatsing.wordpress.com/2009/02/03/nearly

Words about writing, singing, living and loving. Guided tour & welcome. Is a second date too early to… sing to someone? February 3, 2009. No songs are sung of the pain. Of something going nearly right. Of the unrestfulness of trying. To puzzle out, is it right enough? Of the sad dragging of knowing. That nearly is less than we need. The silence of two hands not meeting. The wrenching misery of silver. And sometimes I’d rather have nothing. Than that cold consolation of nearly. February 4, 2009 at 1:10 am.

Just the poetry | Words that sing

https://wordsthatsing.wordpress.com/just-the-poetry

Words about writing, singing, living and loving. Guided tour & welcome. Here’s a summary of all the poems I’ve posted on my blog, including a note of the structures I’ve used. I’ve marked my favourites in bold. A quick note on critiquing. I do value frank feedback as a way to improve as a poet, but there are several poems here which are very personal to me, where critique might inadvertently touch on vulnerable spots. Invitation – four verses using 3 rhymes. A tribute – free verse. Hope – free verse.

Pause | Words that sing

https://wordsthatsing.wordpress.com/2009/05/13/pause

Words about writing, singing, living and loving. Guided tour & welcome. Gathering round the fire →. May 13, 2009. I have hung my lute on the wall. And tied it with a green ribbon. I don’t sing my songs any more;. My heart is so full that I can’t find the words. Once my longing and loneliness poured out in song. But now my joy is so great that no sound can contain it. Now rest here, my lute. And when the wind stirs your strings. I wonder, Is it the final echo of my songs. Gathering round the fire →. Augus...

Words about writing, singing, living and loving. Guided tour & welcome. Gathering round the fire. December 10, 2009. This year I’ve had the real pleasure of uniting some of my deepest interests – music, poetry and my humanist outlook on life – to write some songs for the British Humanist Association. Flame and friendship, gifts and giving. Defying the winter’s ire. An instinct known to all the living. Gathering round the fire. This entry was posted in believing. September 1, 2010 at 5:33 pm. Love and friendship | Words that sing

https://wordsthatsing.wordpress.com/2009/03/09/love-and-friendship

Words about writing, singing, living and loving. Guided tour & welcome. A tribute →. March 9, 2009. Last night I had to tell someone who was clearly falling in love with me that I was interested in being his friend, but didn’t think it was going to develop into anything more. And he, obviously hurt, replied that he was fed up of being just a friend to women…. He didn’t ask me, but it made me think, what is it that makes that difference for me? And yet it was sadly clear to me that it was only nearly.
