How to make your publishing client love you. Here’s the situation: you’ve got yourself onto a publisher’s list and, after a few months, you receive an email offering interesting work at a great rate of pay. You accept the job and complete it on deadline and to the best of your abilities, and the project manager (PM) seems happy (or, at least, you don’t receive any negative feedback, which is often the best feedback a busy PM has time for). And then… nothing. The PM might be relatively new and be trying o...

How to help (and hinder) your typesetter. As a project manager, I am lucky to be in the middle of this process, so I have an insight into what works (i.e., what causes a project to progress smoothly) and what doesn’t (i.e., what causes errors, delays and even additional costs). Following, then, are some suggestions based on their thoughts and on my own experiences. 2 Follow the design (if supplied). 3 Let the typesetter know of any special instructions. 4 Let the typesetter know of any special sorts.

To write or to stitch, the delightful dilemma. I have been living in an apartment waiting for a home to be built. This has taken far longer than expected. I am so glad I brought Bernina with me! She and I have been making a small wall quilt, and as usual, I've learned a few things. Once the top was pieced (all 1" squares), I wanted to try quilting with Jacquie Gering's methods. I had taken her class "Creative Quilting With Your Walking Foot" at Craftsy ( www.craftsy.com. Onward and Upward" 19" x 21".

Allegory of the Ghetto". Allegory" a short story with a moral. One day, a man broke free of his chains and found the exit. After seeing the sunlight and trees for the first time, he exploded in amazement and ran back telling the group,"All that you see here are shadows, the real world awaits you just outside this cave!
