The loss of vision can have an enormous negative impact on one’s life. Despite the significant international communities’ efforts through various programs, there is a continuous increase of visually impaired people due to ageing and population growth all over the world, but mainly in developing countries. According to World Health Organization, around 80% of globally cases can be avoided, regardless if there are conditions that could have been prevented or controlled. Saving Vision Through Education. Blindness currently affects an estimated 39 million people worldwide. The impact of blindness goes far beyond the sufferer themselves. The disabling effects of a lack of sight reach right through family and community life and include the inability to work, and social isolation. We feel passionately that enhancing skills and increasing the numbers of ophthalmic personnel, particularly doctors and nurses, is an important way of reducing blindness in the world.
