Devon Browning: December 2012
http://devonbrowning.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Monday, December 10, 2012. Just dropped off my latest commission yesterday. Biggest painting I've done since college! It was an interesting challenge to paint, because the reference photo was a compilation of 2 photos.so I had to add some shadows, change the tone so both faces matched each other, and basically create a new eye ball on Charley (the lower face). But in the end, it worked out :). Click Gallery to see a better quality image, under the Commissions tab. Posted by Devon Browning.

Devon Browning: Lovely Hands...
http://devonbrowning.blogspot.com/2012/10/lovely-hands.html
Monday, October 8, 2012. I finished this piece last night, after much consternation over the background and the paint drips. But my obsessive nature paid off this time, because I am happy with the final result :). This painting is based on several photographs that I took of my friend Dayna. She has the most lovely hands, and I got to have a grand ol' time playing with light during the photo shoot. Click on the Gallery link to see more deets about the painting. Posted by Devon Browning. Devon Browning: December 2011
http://devonbrowning.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
Thursday, December 1, 2011. Another charcoal commission completed! It took way longer than I thought it would. I struggled with the section where her black hair is next to his blonde hair. Blonde hair and blue eyes can be difficult to portray when using a black and white medium such as charcoal. Also, I manipulated the original photograph to make the two subjects more centered, which caused some difficulty in the shadows between their two faces. Below the drawing is the original photograph.

Devon Browning: July 2011
http://devonbrowning.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 27, 2011. My painting is being carted away, never to be heard from again. which is a good thing! This is Kara and Michelle, they bought my painting "Untitled (My Hair)" at San Diego Pride. This is them picking it up a few days later. Kara is only 17, but a really cool chick. Out and proud! Michelle is an art teacher up in North County. They were both awesome, and I hope to see them again. Posted by Devon Browning. Tuesday, July 19, 2011. Posted by Devon Browning. Monday, July 18, 2011.

Devon Browning: WWII Charcoal Portrait
http://devonbrowning.blogspot.com/2012/08/wwii-charcoal-portrait.html
Thursday, August 30, 2012. This piece was a struggle because of the low resolution, damaged, then scanned, reference photograph. But I used a little Photoshop magic to burn in the face so I could see some details; then I just drew it the best I could. And even though it is still somewhat blurry looking, I like it! It keeps the feel of an old photograph because of the smudgy details. And the charcoal texture adds even more to the old timey-ness. Posted by Devon Browning. August 30, 2012 at 8:03 PM.

Devon Browning: April 2012
http://devonbrowning.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 30, 2012. Below is the finished commission piece of Monty. This commission was especially fun because I took the photograph, so I was able to do exactly what I wanted in terms of lighting and angle. Because Monty is such a bright white I was worried that the photo would be either blown out, or lack contrast. So I had him sit half in the sunlight, and half in the shade. Although Monty was not very happy about it! In the end, I think the painting turned out beautiful! Posted by Devon Browning.
