60 Countries, 180,000 KMS, a few observations and reflections. September 11, 2016. Here we are at country 60, about halfway home and it is a good time to reflect and share a few brief observations from our worldwide ride. Try having a broken down motorcycle in the middle of nowhere only to have a stranger fix it and refuse to take payment. You maybe asking what about all the bad people? You know the bandito’s, corrupt police, boarder officials on the take and military checks points shaking you down?

The truth is any. Then why these ones? The question that all overland motorcycle travelers must answer at some point is which bike? Search the forums of ADV Rider or Horizons Unlimited and countless queries have been made in search of just the right machine. For us the decision was one of practicality and more importantly fit. We wanted to keep the bikes the same if at all possible for easier maintenance and spare parts. The bikes all geared up for the adventure. Żurek and Wściekły pies.

Gear | World Wide Ride

Riders are nutty about their gear and we are no exception. We chose our gear by searching the internet for packing lists, reading other riders blogs and ADV/HU ride reports. Adventure riders live in their gear and their lives literally depend on it so this is a BIG decision. These are the choices we started with. Please see below for reviews of our gear as we travel along. Jacket . Sent these home as did not find it “cooler” than Defender. Vest sent home after a year. Helmet This was a great helmet, but ...

Lily's Travels: 06/14
http://lilystravels1115.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Walking around Guayaquil, Ecuador. Since our rooms were not ready at 6AM, we had breakfast and went on an early morning walk around town. We walked towards Malecon 2000 - the beautifully reconstructed boardwalk. It was pretty overcast all morning but I think that was good for our walk as the humidity already made our walk much more difficult than it would be otherwise. We saw a number of feral cats and dogs about. The colorful houses of las Penas. Lovely houses of Las Penas. 444 steps to the top. I am st...

Day 5 - last full day. This morning we went fishing again. The piranhas in Rio Negro are different from the ones on Rio Solimoes. There are no red ones here but there are the black ones which are the largest type, up to 5kg. Roberto, our resident fishing expert, caught two of these black piranhas. Morning canoe ride - glassy waters. Blue and yellow Macaws. No one succeeded of course. See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Wat Phrakaew, Bangkok, Thailand. Trip log: 2...

One year on two wheels through the Americas. Bird sanctuary beside Iguazu Falls. Bird sanctuary beside Iguazu Falls. Dort angekomme...

Crabs at Isla de la Plata. Another odd difference that exists between Ecuador and Colombia is the coffee. In Colombia the coffee is great, when you order a black coffee there you get a brewed cup of the local crop. When you order a coffee in Ecuador they bring you a cup of hot water and a jar of Nescafe! The shrunken head itself.
Share My Oyster: Home again : (

Places to go, people to meet, bike to ride. Monday, 20 August 2012. Home again : (. Is undergoing renovations which would appear to be out of reach for the current young owner, but she's doing a wonderful job all the same. A warm welcome awaits, and I doubt more affordable accommodation can be found anywhere in town. I paid $40 for b&b and nothing was too much trouble, with the added bonus of this being a beautiful old art deco building, I felt like Clarke Gable! Posted by David Brookes. Great to finally...
