Meet Virginia: texting lyrics
http://ziavirgi.blogspot.com/2015/08/texting-lyrics.html
Thursday, 13 August 2015. I slept very little last week: it was too hot and there were too many mosquitos biting around. On top of it, Sunday night was even more sleepless. I had an early flight to catch, so I couldn't fall asleep as I was afraid of not hearing the alarm clock in the morning. To make the situation even better there had been a thunderstorm too. As a consequence of my sleep-deprived state I was even less of myself on Monday. One funny side effect was the way I texted people. Is " to text.

Meet Virginia: March 2015
http://ziavirgi.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Sunday, 22 March 2015. Forecast was calling for rain and indeed it was raining when I woke up this morning. In the time it took me to move from waking to getting up, I managed to read the Sunday post on Postsecret. And to contemplate the possibility I might be hibernating right now at the beginning of spring, Outside it stopped raining but weather remained gloomy. Dedicated to Primo Levi. So there I was, reading " Other People's Trades. When I heard a woman exclaim: "How beautiful! Saturday, 14 March 2015.

Meet Virginia: January 2015
http://ziavirgi.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Thursday, 15 January 2015. I sent a message to my friend Flavia during Christmas break. She was way over busy back then: she and Rob had decided that there was nothing better to do in the middle of Australian summer than becoming parents, moving to a new house and celebrate Christmas in a timespan of barely 4 weeks. When she told me she was tired, I did believe her, fully. Yet, she took the time to share some of my puzzled bewilderment and laughters. My friend Franceschina says is the perfect business: y...

Meet Virginia: November 2014
http://ziavirgi.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 26 November 2014. On certain Sundays in November. When the weather bothers me. I empty drawers of other summers. Where my shadows used to be. Hard Candy", Counting Crows). Last weeks went by in a whirl of emotions, travel and lots of swearing, with an extra pinch of medicine for the cold for good measure. I've been quite busy at work and outside of it. I managed to get some time to visit the Vatican Museum and an exhibition about Escher (in the palace! Sang a-là-Clash, as I usually do. The exh...

Meet Virginia: September 2014
http://ziavirgi.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 9 September 2014. This summer was a lucky string of good reads. I loved almost every single book I picked up and it's something that hasn't happened so often recently. One of the best book I read was Lauren Bates’s “Everyday Sexism”. The first time I came across the Everyday Sexism Project. One of the many possible harassment I could be victim of just because I'm a woman had just happened. And I got back home feeling angry and upset. To quote my sister quoting a De André's song. Sometimes I caug...

Meet Virginia: August 2015
http://ziavirgi.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Monday, 31 August 2015. Where on earth is…. Life is getting rougher and people are getting meaner. I understand it completely. I understand empathy is a tiring, difficoult and most of times unrewarding exercise. Yet it still happens, every now and then, that a small little event happens and I'm completely dumbfounded and speechless. Got back to my flat in Torino on Friday evening, as usual. Gas bill, Ikea catalogue and a letter with important news from a funeral parlour. Oh pardon my French. I meant F* k!

Meet Virginia: Allons-y, Paris!
http://ziavirgi.blogspot.com/2015/06/allons-y-paris.html
Thursday, 18 June 2015. Last week I had a work meeting in Paris: after 3 days of work, I added an extra day of holiday, the weekend and voilà! 6 days in Paris, and half of those days were for me and me only. I love Paris, I love how everything looks so much more romantic, smarter and charming in this city. I needed new memories of Paris, not to delete the sadness of the painful ones, but to counterbalance them. I wanted to be able to look around me without feeling just completely miserable. Staring at th...

Meet Virginia: July 2015
http://ziavirgi.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 28 July 2015. This must be the (awful) place. Is one of those movie I don't mind watching again, even if only a brief clip when there's a rerun on TV. I find it funny, charming and, despite the fairytale happy ending, very truthful. It all goes back to this exchange between the 2 main characters:. It's called reality and alas it's not going anywhere. Anything else to add? Right now not that much, other that I got no clear means nor idea on how to improve my current living situation. I'd like to ...

Meet Virginia: October 2014
http://ziavirgi.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, 23 October 2014. When we were all still living under the same roof, I was impressed by the way my sister read books: by stack. What's the point of reading Proust, after all, if you don't carry more than one volume of the Recherché with you? At least, as a reference tool, to remember what good old Marcel was ranting about 400 pages before. Things have changed recently. I blame it on the lack of decent bookshelves. I blame Murakami too. After finishing reading his latest novel. Open another book,...

Meet Virginia: December 2014
http://ziavirgi.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 31 December 2014. The strategy of a (light) snail. Many years ago, before I even had started moving around on a semestral basis, I watched a Colombian movie, Sergio Cabrera’s “ La estrategia del caracol. 8221; (The strategy of the snail): when the owner of a building kicks his tenants out, they decide to react and move taking with them all of their homes, internal walls, windows, roofs, pipes included. Just like a snail, they brought their home with them. One of such concept is “ space. Throwi...
