Workshop on the Water. Tuesday, January 14, 2014. Christmas and New Year holidays are over, staff have come back from using up accumulated vacation, volunteers are back, and students have returned to school. WoW, which was a very. Quiet place for a few weeks, is now bustling again with multiple projects underway and lots of people. Don't touch those screwdrivers! Ice on the river with Ben Franklin Bridge in background. There will be less scraping needed this spring on Gazela's hull. Hmm Might be a boat!

Workshop on the Water: October 2013

Workshop on the Water. Friday, October 18, 2013. Putting the Beetle Cat Back Together. We have pretty much stripped the Beetle Cat down to her bones, and discovered most of her warts and wrinkles, and now we have begun to fix things. The most glaring problems, the leaky centerboard case and three broken frames under the foredeck, are our first concerns. We are removing the broken frames, and replacing them. With new ones, one by one, so as not to cause the hull to distort. A white oak strip gets steamed.

Workshop on the Water: March 2014
http://workshoponthewater.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Workshop on the Water. Friday, March 28, 2014. Skiffs, sloops, and runabouts. Jeff shows Jen how to drill bolt holes in a skiff skeg. Jen takes over, and another skeg gets ready for installation. Lots of pieces need to be cut, both for planking and for the cross-planked bottoms of the skiffs. Volunteers Joe and Bob took on that task, and roared through a pile of white cedar in a day. Bob selects boards while Joe gets ready to joint their edges. Dave assesses the next board to be machined. Jeff, and John ...

Workshop on the Water: June 2014
http://workshoponthewater.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Workshop on the Water. Friday, June 6, 2014. Life after the skiffs. On schedule, the four Harbormaster Skiffs made it out of the shop and onto the floating dock, where they received their final touch ups of bottom paint and a bit more Sikaflex. They were launched with great ceremony last week, and now are tied up in the basin and available for rowing. The shop has a LOT more room than it had a few weeks ago, but we will fill it up quickly. On a rainy, gray day, the boats await launching. This week, Jeff ...

Workshop on the Water: Another successful flip
http://workshoponthewater.blogspot.com/2014/07/another-successful-flip.html
Workshop on the Water. Wednesday, July 9, 2014. The first step, gravity being what it is, was to turn her over so the soon-to-be-glassed bottom is accessible for epoxy coating and glassing. The crew stands by the boat in slings. Jeff is planning. Lower the hoist on the portside, and raise it on starboard. Charles gives her a final push. And, down she goes. Bob finishes up the torpedo tail frame. Tube in background will be the body. Dave and Larry tighten some screws. In New Jersey and installed last week.

http://workshoponthewater.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Workshop on the Water. Wednesday, April 16, 2014. The student-built Harbormaster skiffs are moving along nicely now, and are not far from being ready to launch. Bottom paint has been applied to several, and frames are being fastened. The seemingly endless job of cleaning up Sikaflex ooze is always there whenever anyone has a free minute or two. Up, up, and . . . Joe finishes up milling a plank. They are all done now. Larry scrapes oozed Sikaflex in one of the skiffs before frames are attached. Charles is...
