yantrajaal : the personal portal of Prithwis Mukerjee: Y ?
http://www.yantrajaal.com/2009/07/y.html
Yantrajaal is a personal portal. A portal is defined as a gateway to something or somewhere and many large and excellent portals exist that can lead a visitor through the magic maze of the world wide web. But Yantrajaal is unique because it will lead you into a private web — very unique to me, and me alone — that defines my Digital Identity. Yantrajaal was born in 1999, when the world wide web was in its infancy. To see what we felt about the web in those days please visit the Nostalgia section.

It’s Alive!! | Nothing Really Important
https://rambotwk.wordpress.com/2010/12/16/its-alive
December 16, 2010. My blog, that is. The post that causes it to be alive is, ironically, about death. The weather was flawless, it was shamelessly sunny. Birds and bees were wearing party hats, and it wasn’t funny. It seemed that instead of going all choky and teary-eyed. The world was revelling in the fact that I had died. The reason of my demise is fairly pointless. Who cares if I was devoured by vultures boisterous. It doesn’t matter if it was an undercooked egg I was fed. You’re just going to a sort ...

blog@Yantrajaal: Maps of India : DIY with R and GADM data
http://blog.yantrajaal.com/2015/05/maps-of-india-diy-with-r-and-gadm-data.html
May 03, 2015. Maps of India : DIY with R and GADM data. Displaying spatial data on maps is always interesting but most Visualisation tools do not offer facilities to create maps of India, especially at the state and lower levels. In this post, we will show how such maps can be made. The base data for such maps, the "polygons" that define the country, the states, the districts and even the talukas ( or sub-divisions) is available from an organisation called Global Administrative Areas or gadm.org. Now sup...

May 19, 2015. Technology, Management and Systems : The Holy Trinity? Let us consider a few exemplary scenarios. In fact, India lost the plot much earlier, in the middle ages when we failed to board the Renaissance bus. While the Mughals were celebrating the high noon of their culture with the Taj Mahal and Urdu. Europe was passing us by with the structured and rational thinking of Galileo, Rousseau and Newton. Administrative. Like the modern nation state, with its civil and military services, economic.

July 17, 2015. Distance Learning - Reloaded. Distance learning using the internet - that allows students anywhere in the country to learn from the best teachers - is old news! But to show value we need to cross two big hurdles, namely an economic model for content creation and a stamp of accreditation on the education delivered. How should we address these two critical issues? Let us now connect the dots. This article originally appeared in Swarajya. The magazine that reads india right. Buy the book today.

February 22, 2015. Painted Storks at Rabindra Sarovar. This year, all of a sudden and perhaps for the first time since I have been visiting the Rabindra Sarovar in south Calcutta, we have had a small flock of painted storks staying over in the little island in the middle of the lake. Initially, I thought that they had come from Siberia or some other very cold place but it seems that is not quite true. They are native to India. This map shows the island where the pictures were taken. February 17, 2015.

January 21, 2015. The Iconography of Saraswati. Saraswati is the patron saint of learning in general and literature, arts and music in particular who is honoured and adored on Basant Panchami every year. Most of us are aware of her image where she is seated on a swan with a Veena in her hand. However there is a very unique yantra or abstract representation of the Devi that lies beyond the anthropomorphic image that is usually worshiped in countless households across Bengal. October 14, 2014. Three Myths and a Lie : Charbak Unplugged. The world today is awash in lies and myths, because nothing is what it seems to be. Paid media, biased press - no one seems to be telling the truth anymore. Is this how it is supposed to be? As an aside, any analysis of philosophy in India invariably begins with a commentary, or denunciation, of Charbak’s philosophy of extreme materialism - reenam kritwa, ghreetam pibet! And whether they can use blue LED to save energy? For the vast majority of...
