Dear Mr. Sampedro,. Beauty is truth, truth beauty (Yeats). It was from the beginning a metaphysical argument. for at the base what do you find? Or do you suppose that laws float in a vaccuum, did human rights spring from the ground? You ask for the right to die, you ask for death with dignity. And I sympathize with you, I do, but your argument is a spaghetti strainer. Tell me, name for me a law, a right endowed by nature. Tell me, do, which animal observes these rights? The state’s authority, you say?

Life of Loo: April 2007
http://mattloo.blogspot.com/2007_04_01_archive.html
I had a great Easter weekend. Not only did I get to spend four days with Shea and more time than usual with my family, but I was reminded and encouraged to pursue the full life Jesus came to give. It's a great question that probably every high school and college student who has grown up in church has to face. But at the heart of that question is another question: do you believe that following Jesus is the fullest, most satisfying life possible? I love Easter for a lot of reasons, but probably the best on...

Seat of Your Pants: Somewhere a magician is getting booed off stage

Seat of Your Pants. Somewhere a magician is getting booed off stage. Let's walk to Dolores," she said. Because the camera was automatic, you see? Then when I realized how complete the evidence was against me that when I started to doubt my own innocence and my memory, maybe this was actually my camera, and that was the really scary part. So I asked the people who owned the house where the party was if they knew everyone at the party and they said no way, there was tons of people here.". Eventually she de...

Life of Loo: on the right track?
http://mattloo.blogspot.com/2007/07/few-guys-from-church-have-been-meeting.html
On the right track? A few guys from church have been meeting and talking about the book Wild at Heart. This week we had a really good conversation about a question that I think almost everyone has to ask themselves:. Am I doing what I'm supposed to be doing with my life? How do you figure that out? I mean, I can't answer that question with any certainty. Most people my age probably can't. And because we can't, we start playing these crazy games trying to figure out God's will for our lives. Thanks for ch...

Life of Loo: live the gospel...
http://mattloo.blogspot.com/2007/07/live-gospel.html
By nature, I'm not much of an eavesdropper. But I happened to hear part of a phone conversation one of my friends was having with his roommate from college. Really, all I heard was the very end. Live the gospel.". That was it. Just "live the gospel.". I think that might be the coolest way I've ever heard a conversation ended. It's an amazing encouragement between two men who want to make much of Jesus with their lives. It wasn't softened by a routine "see ya later," or "take care.". On the right track?

After re-reading John Eldredge's Wild at Heart. In August, it only made sense that our guys small group went to see the new movie Into the Wild. It was a good movie with a lot of really good thoughts and points. I think Sean Penn may have tried to get a little too artistic by including some completely unnecessary scenes, but overall I was impressed. Lessons from a pit bull. But this pit bull ended up being a nice one. he didn't have a collar, but his chewed up harness made it clear that, at least at ...

About 17 years ago, a guy named Paul Tokunaga spoke at Urbana. A student missions conference held once every three years. Here's what he said. The best missionary later is the best missionary now. The patterns that we establish for ourselves now will likely be our life style patterns when we're thirty, forty, and ninety. If you're a driven student now who only has time for studies, in twenty years you'll probably be a driven business person with ulcers.". Conference. It was a change of pace from hang...
